Ellison Barber Tackles True Crime’s Biggest Cases in New Podcast Allegedly

The weekly video series from NBC News Studios pairs the Emmy–winning reporter with insiders and experts.

    April 16, 2026

Ellison Barber has reported from war zones, courtrooms, and breaking news scenes around the world. Now the Emmy–winning NBC News journalist is diving deeper into the world of true crime in a new weekly video podcast coming to Netflix April 29.

In each episode of Allegedly, Barber will break down one of the most talked-about cases with a trusted friend with expertise in the world of crime, or a person central to the story. The show will pair sharp reporting with a conversational format centered on the cases people can’t stop sharing. The first episode will discuss new revelations in the Gabby Petito case; the second episode unpacks the recent high-profile investigation regarding real estate brokers the Alexander brothers; and the third sees Barber in conversation with cult psychology expert Christine Marie from Trust Me: The False Prophet.

As a reporter for NBC News, Barber has covered some of the highest-profile trials in recent memory, including the Alex Murdaugh murder case in South Carolina and the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Wisconsin. She also anchored NBC News’ breaking coverage the night Luigi Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania. Internationally, Barber spent roughly 150 days reporting from Ukraine and was the only US correspondent to anchor live from the Israel–Gaza border at the start of the war, in 2023. She received an Emmy for being among the first journalists to report that the US Capitol had been breached on January 6.

“As an avid viewer of true crime and someone who’s always loved digging into details, I’m eager to bring viewers inside our reporting process as we examine the most compelling evidence with guests whose unique perspectives shed new light on cases capturing the nation’s attention,” Barber tells Tudum.

Allegedly is produced by NBC News Studios. Executive producers are Liz Cole, Kimberley Ferdinando, and Christopher Cassel.
