In the French Caribbean Thriller Bandi, Survival Is a Family Affair

The Lafleur siblings have no one but each other.

When the matriarch of the Lafleur family dies in a traffic collision on her way to work, 11 orphaned brothers and sisters — all between the ages of 23 and 7 — must unite to keep their family financially stable and their youngest siblings out of foster care. But there’s discord among the elder siblings about how exactly to stay afloat: Some want to honor their mother’s strong sense of morality and struggle through the process of launching new, legal businesses, while others are fine with resorting to robbery and drug dealing to ensure a quick cash flow. While they argue amongst themselves, little do they know their 16-year-old brother Kylian (Djody Grimeau), a middle child, is already a known player in Martinique’s illicit substances game. Sensing he’s the only one with the motion to make the Lafleurs’ ambitions a reality, Kylian, also known as the mysterious dealer Milord, starts to make moves to expand his piece of West Indies drug trade into an international operation. Will he manage to unite his siblings towards a common goal? Or will his risky gamble put the entire family in his enemies’ crosshairs?

Created by father-daughter team Eric and Capucine Rochant (The Bureau), Bandi is a gritty family drama set in the French-controlled territory of Martinique, an island in the West Indies. The eight-episode French-language crime series stars local Martinicans, like trap artist Evil P (government name Patrick Trieste), in their debut acting roles. Bandi also features appearances by actors from The Bureau, including Jonathan Zaccaï. Stream all eight episodes now, and keep reading for more info on the cast.
