Welcome to “Meet Cute,” where we get up close and sometimes personal with our newest crush. This time around, we’re chatting with Calam Lynch from Bridgerton Season 2.
Calam Lynch never did a chemistry test with his Bridgerton love interest Claudia Jessie, but that didn’t stop the pair from pulling off one of Season 2’s most heartbreaking scenes with crackling, well, chemistry. Terrified of ruining her family’s reputation, Regency socialite Eloise Bridgerton (Jessie) ends her “friendship” with working-class printmaker Theo Sharpe (Lynch). Eloise’s decision leaves Theo heartbroken and teary eyed.
“We did that scene a few times, and I think the one they’ve used is the last take we did of me, because the first couple — I was in floods of tears,” Lynch tells Tudum. Director Tom Verica recommended Lynch “pull back” a little for the final take. “At the time, I was really feeling it... It was my last day on set, and it was Claudia’s last day on set. It was the last shot of the day, and it was so intimate,” Lynch continues.
If you can’t tell, Lynch is a romantic, making him the perfect person to fill out our “Meet Cute” dating profile and give us a peek inside of his heart.

On a first date, I always... try to ask a lot of questions, because that sucks, when you don’t get asked questions on a date. And eye contact, I’m a big one for eye contact.
My current Netflix crush is… Claudia Jessie and Chrishell Stause.
My love language is... physical touch.
Do you consider yourself a romantic? One million percent, yeah. I think that’s what life’s about. It’s about love. What does all of it mean, if not to love and be loved? That’s the best thing in the world.
That’s a perfect romantic hero answer. Have you been seeing all the love you’re getting on social media?
I really love the ones where people are responding to the relationship between Theo and Eloise, because Claudia and I really thought it was great. So we were hoping the world would feel the same. I’m watching the TikToks that people have made... I’ve seen a couple of thirsty ones. That’s fun too.
So, “yes” to thirst and “heck yes” to romance?
Definitely yes to both. Who am I kidding? I love the thirsty ones.
That’s a very Scorpio answer. Do you identify with being a Scorpio?
I hard identify as a Scorpio — loyal, passionate. That’s what I’m about. That’s what Theo’s about. I think he’s a Scorpio too. I try to pour as much of myself into a character as possible, rather than creating someone different. Most of Theo is really me.

Calam Lynch, as Bridgerton’s Theo Sharpe in his print shop.
What do you think would be on Theo’s dating profile if they existed in Regency England?
No one right wing. Theo would be into socialism, feminism. I feel like his hobbies would also be manual. He likes printing. Maybe a bit of gardening would be in there as well.
Oh, that’s sweet.
Gardening is sweet, but it’s also sexy. It would be gardening with his top off, like in a Diet Coke ad. Sexy gardening would be his vibe.
The people definitely deserve to see that. Have you seen that fans are calling for you to be Eloise’s main love interest in the series? That would be a departure from the books. How does it feel to know viewers are already prepared to rebel against the source material for you?
That’s amazing. I haven’t been able to read all the messages and comments because there are a lot. But the ones I’ve read and the ones I’ve been sent have all been so lovely and supportive. The atmosphere on set and amongst the cast is like a big family. I know that’s a cliché, but it is. Everyone’s really lovely, and it seems to extend to the fans as well. I want to meet them. I’m excited [about getting] to see proper Bridgerton stans.
Many of those stans are heartbroken #Theloise didn’t get to kiss. What was it like on set the day of their almost-kiss toward the end of the season? I know you and Claudia thought they should smooch.
We were like, “I feel like they should do the kiss, rather than not do the kiss at the end.” [Director] Tom is, unfortunately, a very charming man, and a man who knows the right thing to do, and you trust in him. Those conversations quite quickly were like, “No, you silly children.” I think they’re building up for an even bigger kiss. That’s the only logical reason for me. I’m like, “They’re going to kiss at some point, just not yet.”
As the actor who plays Theo, could you see him reuniting with Eloise in the future?
The people at Shondaland know what’s best for the characters. I completely trust them to do what’s right — for Eloise, mainly, but for Theo, too. I can’t really see him with anyone else. I can’t see him staying in that world, unless they’re together. I can really picture what it would be like — because we’ve mainly been in Theo’s world in Season 2 — for him to come into hers, and for her to take care of him in those new settings. I think you’d see a lovely side to Eloise, too. I hope he gets to go to a ball, one ball.
What do you imagine Theo would do at a ball?
He’d be dressed up in a suit, and he’d be a little bit uncomfortable at the beginning. He and Eloise would be gazing into each other’s eyes, and she’d make him feel comfortable. She’d take his hand, he’d relax, and it would be like there was no one else in the room.
