Soon it will be time to say goodbye to the Locke family and Keyhouse Manor, but first there’s one final season filled with plenty of magic. In Season 3, prepare for the Locke family to reunite and return home with their friends; together, they’ll wrap up a mysterious and thrilling saga with a new key adversary. Before diving into the conclusion of their story, here’s a refresher on all the characters — and the actors who portray them — in Season 3 of Locke & Key.

Darby Stanchfield plays the matriarch of the Locke family, who moved her three children to Matheson, Massachusetts, after her husband, Rendell Locke, is murdered — an event that sets off everything else that happens in the series. At the end of Season 2, Nina’s youngest son, Bode, uses the enchanted Memory Key on Nina so she’s finally able to see and remember all the magic happening around her. Thanks to that transformation, she can fully connect with her kids and participate in all the magic-related action in the final season. Stanchfield has also appeared in popular shows like Scandal, NCIS and Mad Men.

Tyler, the eldest of the Locke kids, fights to escape the painful memories of his time in Matheson. The start of Season 3 finds him physically far from Massachusetts, working construction in Montana, but not emotionally as separate as he’d like to be. Will he return to his family and the magical world of Keyhouse? Or will he stick with his decision at the end of Season 2 to forget all about the keys and everything that goes along with them? Connor Jessup, now 28, has been acting since the age of 11; in addition to his work on Locke & Key, he’s also known for his roles in the series Falling Skies and American Crime.

The only Locke daughter, Kinsey, is boldly creative and — thanks to the keys — unafraid of a challenge. This season, thanks to older brother Tyler’s absence from Matheson, Kinsey steps into the role of protector for younger brother Bode and occasionally also acts as emotional support for mom Nina. Between helping out her family, making a second student film and fighting off demons, of course, she’s got her hands full. Kinsey is expertly portrayed by Emilia Jones, a 20-year-old British actress who most recently garnered well-deserved attention for her leading role as Ruby Rossi in the Oscar-winning 2021 film CODA.

Thirteen-year-old Jackson Robert Scott plays Bode, the hilarious and tenderhearted youngest Locke. This season, Bode clings to the past and memories of his late father, while the rest of his family seemingly moves on. He also finds himself in conflict with a returning demon, this time from a completely different plane of existence. Scott, who has been acting since the age of 7, played Georgie Denbrough in It and It Chapter Two and more recently appeared in WandaVision.

In the final season of Locke & Key, there’s a new antagonist in Matheson. Capt. Frederick Gideon, who’s played by Kevin Durand, is a British soldier who lived in colonial Massachusetts and became possessed by a demon. At the end of Season 2, Capt. Gideon is resurrected and is now hunting the Locke family’s magic keys. Durand is no stranger to acting in projects that are based on comic books. His most notable role was as Fred Dukes in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and he’s also appeared in Lost, Dark Angel and Resident Evil: Retribution.

Ellie Whedon was a close childhood friend of Rendell Locke and one of the original Keepers of the Keys, meaning she knows a lot about the magic of Keyhouse. Sherri Saum brings poignant emotion to Ellie’s internal conflict over her past involvement with the keys and her struggle to return to normal life after spending nearly all of Season 2 trapped behind the Black Door. Saum’s knack for moving performances earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1999 for her role on Sunset Beach. She also lent her acting chops to Roswell, New Mexico; Good Trouble and The Fosters.

Last season, Josh Bennett, portrayed by Brendan Hines, moved to Matheson, where he has ancestral connections. The relocation was spurred by the death of Josh’s wife, and he arrives in town with his daughter, Jamie, hoping for a fresh start. Nina meets Josh at Matheson Academy, where he works as a history teacher. The two strike up a romantic relationship, which they put on pause to individually work through the grief of losing their respective spouses. Will they rekindle the spark in Season 3? Locke & Key isn’t the first project on which Hines and Stanchfield have worked together. They both appeared in Season 1 of Scandal. Hines can also be seen in Lie to Me, Suits and The Tick.

Coby Bird plays Rufus Whedon, Ellie’s son, groundskeeper of Keyhouse and close friend to Bode. After his mother’s escape from the Black Door, Rufus returns from Nebraska to Matheson and tries desperately to convince Ellie it’s where they’re meant to live permanently. Though it doesn’t show, Bird is fairly new to acting, having appeared in only a handful of other series,
including Speechless, The Good Doctor and the web series Love Daily.

Known for his work on Veronica Mars, Smallville and Designated Survivor (he’ll also appear in Netflix’s upcoming second season of Ginny & Georgia), Aaron Ashmore is the Locke kids’ fun Uncle Duncan in Locke & Key. This season, he celebrates his wedding to longtime boyfriend Brian, which, of course, takes place on the grounds of Keyhouse and involves quite a bit of magic — both the literal and figurative kind.
