On Friday, Aug. 12, Day Shift comes out of the shadows and finally bares its fangs on screens. The vampire action movie stars Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as Bud Jablonski, a blue-collar hero who battles bloodsuckers with the backing of an international vampire-hunting union. Step into the light (unless, of course, you’re one of them) with our guide to the heroes and villains stalking around Day Shift’s plasma-packed environs.

Meet Day Shift’s one-liner-spinning action hero. Jamie Foxx stars as Bud, a down-on-his luck LA vampire hunter in need of cash fast. (For his family, of course!) Foxx won an Oscar in 2005 for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the celebrated biopic Ray but has proven himself as a jack-of-all-trades since breaking out in the ’90s sketch series In Living Color. He led the sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show, played the baddie Electro in two different Spider-Man franchises and dropped the 2008 club banger “Blame It.” Now we can add vampire killer to that list.

Dave Franco plays Seth, the vampire union pencil pusher turned sidekick. Before that, he played the expert driver Six in 6 Underground, the beer entrepreneur Jeff in Easy and a very different Seth in the drama 6 Balloons. Franco has also appeared behind the camera, as director of The Rental, a horror film that stars his wife, Alison Brie.

The D-O-double-G can do more than just spit iconic, laid-back verses and rock the Super Bowl halftime show. Snoop Dogg appears in Day Shift as Big John Elliott, the cowboy hat–wearing friend of Bud and a powerful force in the vampire hunters union. Snoop Dogg and Foxx have been friends since way back — with the former even getting involved in the latter’s family’s love life.

Karla Souza first made her mark stateside as crime-embroiled law student Laurel Castillo in the Shondaland drama How to Get Away with Murder. Before that, the Mexican-born actor starred in telenovelas such as Verano de amor and Los héroes del norte. Now she plays the fearsome Day Shift villain Audrey — an über-vampire and real estate mogul with her sights set on the San Fernando Valley.

A very small-but-specific sliver of the millennial demo will always remember Meagan Good as the ultimate best friend Nina in Cousin Skeeter. But she’s all grown up now — and playing the mom role. In Day Shift, Good is Jocelyn, Bud’s estranged wife and mother to their precocious kid, Paige. Good and Foxx both previously starred in the Jay Pharoah comedy series White Famous.

Zion Broadnax might be young, but her résumé is long. She’s already popped up in shows like Station 19 and Abbott Elementary. Still, Day Shift is Broadnax’s biggest role yet. She plays Paige, the whip smart daughter of Bud and Jocelyn.

Loyal fans of The Society will recognize Natasha Liu Bordizzo from her turn as religious overachiever Helena Wu. With Day Shift, the actor has traded interdimensional phenomena for vampires as Heather, Bud’s kindly — if lonely — neighbor.

At its heart, Day Shift is a workplace movie. The twist is that the workplace happens to be a vampire-infested version of Los Angeles. Hey, it’s still a living! Eric Lange fills the requisite nosy boss archetype as Ralph, a vampire union leader with an ax to grind against Bud. Lange has been working for decades and starred in a very different take on LA with 2021’s mind-bending fantasy series Brand New Cherry Flavor. He also appeared in the drug world drama Narcos.

The Nazarian brothers stride into Day Shift determined to kick bloodsucker butt and look cool doing it. One half of the action duo is played by Shameless actor Steve Howey, sporting a very chic eyebrow cut. Howey can also be spotted in a Season 1 episode of Dead to Me, where he played Jason, Jen Harding’s (Christina Applegate) almost-hookup at a grief retreat.

If fang hunter Diran Nazarian looks very, very comfortable kicking his way through a horde of vampires, that’s due to the bone-crunching résumé of the actor who plays him, Scott Adkins. The British badass has appeared in a long list of action titles, including The Debt Collector series, Legacy of Lies and the undeniably awesome Avengement.

Peter Stormare is one of those ubiquitous and indelible character actors who seem to be in everything — he has over 200 credits to his name. He’s worked with Keanu Reeves multiple times (Constantine, Swedish Dicks and John Wick: 2), played a god (American Gods), broke bad in Fargo and the “Frogger” episode of Seinfeld and even voiced a vampire himself in Castlevania. In Day Shift, he’s in the vamp-busting business as Troy, a pawn broker with a supernatural twist.

German-born Oliver Masucci has already made a name for himself with international audiences by leading the hit Netflix series Dark and Tribes of Europa (along with appearing in the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore). In Day Shift, he continues in the villainous vampire tradition kickstarted by Joseph Morgan in The Vampire Diaries by playing Audrey’s terrifying bodyguard and confidant, Klaus.
