What do the President of the United States, a real estate magnate who loves the Talking Heads song “Psycho Killer,” and a woman bonded with an octopus have in common? They took home trophies at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards. The Diplomat’s Allison Janney, Matthew Rhys of The Beast in Me, and Remarkably Bright Creatures star Sally Field were all among the big winners of the Sept. 14 ceremony, a night celebrating the brightest of the year in television.
Rhys earned his second Emmy win for playing the master manipulator Niles Jarvis in the limited series The Beast in Me, a performance that captivated audiences throughout the cat-and-mouse thriller. “We had a beautiful holy trinity of scribes in the glorious form of Daniel Pearle, Gabe Rotter, and the inimitable Howard Gordon, who really brought the beast in all of us,” said the actor in his acceptance speech. “We were guided so beautifully by Antonio Campos, but certainly led ferociously, fiercely, fervently by the incredible Claire Danes. Thank you for letting me join the mystery machine and bringing out the beast.”
Janney also thanked the creatives behind her series after winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as President Grace Penn in Season 4 of The Diplomat. “The entire cast is just divine, and I am so grateful and so lucky,” she said as she accepted her eighth career Emmy win.
Fresh off of Remarkably Bright Creatures' win for Outstanding Movie at the Sept. 6 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, its star, Sally Field, took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Onstage, the performer paid tribute to her peers: “I have been so grateful and so proud to be a part of this community, the arts, for 62 years or something. We're the arts. We matter. Our voices matter. Our diversity, our unique storytelling matters.”
