Prepare to be titillated, tempted, and maybe even terrified as supernatural mystery, romance, and horror converge in Sid & Zoey.

Netflix has ordered the genre-bending project straight to series following a highly competitive development deal. Created by Jon Kasdan (The First Time, Willow), Sid & Zoey is dark, seductive, and unapologetically strange, promising to serve a growing audience hungry for bold, creator-driven storytelling that is emotionally alive. Kasdan will showrun, write, and executive produce the YA gothic romance alongside John Shiban (Ozark). J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot and Jason Blum, James Wan, and Rob Hackett for Blumhouse Atomic Monster will also serve as executive producers.

Over eight episodes, the series will follow Sid, a seductive, sophisticated, and amoral teenager from New York, as he’s sent to live with a police chief and his family in the idyllic Mississippi town where his mother grew up. Among them is the chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter, Zoey. Resisting their mutual attraction, Sid and Zoey find themselves drawn into a dark, hidden world beneath the town’s picture-postcard facade — and a paranormal puzzle that may well get them killed (if they don’t kill each other first). It’s a fish-out-of-water tale focused on an unlikely pair with plenty of scares.

With Sid & Zoey, Netflix continues to bring boundary-pushing stories to life. The series will be right at home among other such titles that spark fandoms and dominate culture, including Stranger Things, Wednesday, ONE PIECE, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the upcoming Quinn Shephard series The Body. It also joins Netflix’s growing lineup of young adult franchises, including forthcoming series The SticksPoserCrew GirlMinimum Wage, and A Different World, as well as films Don’t Say Good Luck and Best of the Best. YA titles anchor Netflix’s Most Popular lists and unite fans across generations by bringing authentic and relatable stories to young viewers living those experiences today, while sparking nostalgia for older audiences.
