What can’t Jennifer Lopez do?
Last year, the documentary Halftime took us behind the scenes of the intense preparation Lopez put into her transcendent Super Bowl performance. And in 2023, we’ll see her as a fierce assassin in The Mother, directed by Niki Caro. And believe us, the prep was equally grueling.
In the teaser above, we witness an unfazed — thriving, even — Lopez doing countless pull-ups in arctic temperatures, before lugging a dead elk behind her like it weighs nothing. “She needs protection right now,” says Lopez, as her daughter Zoe is kidnapped, before we cut to a high-speed snowmobile chase. That’s one tough mother, if you ask us.
A military-trained assassin comes out of hiding to protect the daughter who she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men. Watch director Niki Caro explain how she brought her vision to life in the video below:

Lopez stars as the Mother. Joining her on her assassin’s creed is a stacked ensemble featuring Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, Gael García Bernal, Paul Raci and Lucy Paez. Meet them all in our guide to the cast of The Mother and watch Paez’s audition tape below:
