The Recruit Cast Is Officially Declassified

Season 2 welcomes even more thrilling characters into the fray.

    Jan. 30, 2025

Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) and the rest of the cast of The Recruit are ready to crack another case. In Season 2, now streaming, CIA lawyer Owen travels to Seoul, where he must tackle yet another life-threatening situation. However, once Owen lands in South Korea, he learns an even bigger danger might be coming from inside the Agency itself. As Owen fights to survive in treacherous waters, he’s got to contend with a cadre of dubious allies, obvious foes, and others whose true intentions are cloudier than the graymail that just hit his desk.

Below, meet the legal eagles and covert spies who make up the cast of The Recruit.

Noah Centineo

Noah Centineo

Owen Hendricks

A 24-year-old lawyer fresh out of school, Owen joins the CIA and immediately — like, on his very first day at work — becomes entangled in a complicated case involving a former intelligence asset and an international conspiracy. He enters Season 2 still reeling from the fallout from his previous encounter with graymail — aka a very specific type of blackmail wherein the graymailer threatens to reveal state secrets to get what they want. Still, Owen must prove himself again when he’s faced with his greatest challenge yet. A graymail case sends this rookie lawyer to Seoul, where enemies lurk around every corner and trustworthy allies are in short supply.

Centineo first captured hearts as sweet high school boyfriend Peter in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its two sequels (not to mention Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and The Perfect Date). He reprised his role as Peter in Season 2 of the To All the Boys spin-off XO Kitty.

Teo Yoo as Jang Kyun Kim in ‘The Recruit.’

Teo Yoo

Jang Kyun

No one is entirely who they seem in The Recruit. Take Jang Kyun, a clever and driven agent with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of South Korea. He’s highly skilled, he’s willing to do anything to protect those he cares about, and he’s got an extremely subversive sense of humor. What secrets is he hiding?

Yoo received a BAFTA nomination for his turn in the drama Past Lives. He also led the rom-com Love to Hate You

Aarti Mann

Aarti Mann

Violet Ebner

Owen’s ambitious CIA colleague is convinced he’s trying to sabotage her. His easygoing charm never seems to crack her defenses, and she is determined to shake their boss’ faith in him. In Season 2, she remains as suspicious as ever.

Mann is best known to TV audiences as Raj’s younger sister, Priya Koothrappali, in the long-running sitcom The Big Bang Theory. You can also catch her in episodes of Never Have I EverGrey’s AnatomySuits, and more.

Colton Dunn

Lester Kitchens

Violet’s colleague, on the other hand, initially gives Owen a hard time but slowly warms up to the newcomer’s charisma and ambition. Their professional relationship continues to grow in Season 2.

Dunn starred as sarcastic big-box store employee Garrett in the sitcom Superstore, and his extensive comedy résumé includes writing and acting on shows including MadTVKey & Peele, and many more.

Fivel Stewart
Fivel Stewart as Hannah Copeland (center) in The Recruit.

Fivel Stewart

Hannah Copeland

Hannah, Owen’s former roommate and a product of privilege, is a first-year lawyer at a private firm. She’s nurturing but irreverent, thoughtful but occasionally paralyzed by doubt, and she’s struggling to get out from under the thumb of her DC lobbyist parents. In Season 2, Hannah must figure out who she is without her wealthy family — and also perhaps even without Owen. In Season 1, she was Owen’s rock; now she’s questioning whether it’s really a good idea to remain friends with her ex.

Fun fact: Stewart is the younger sister of The Twilight Saga’s Booboo Stewart and has been working in the industry since she was a child,  in both music and acting (she previously played Izzie Taylor in Atypical). She’s also a karate champion.

Kristian Bruun

Janus Ferber

Janus is a former rock star among the CIA lawyer community, who’s since grown cynical. He’s also a professional mercenary. And though Janus would prefer to be as far away from the chaos of Owen as possible, he’s pulled into Owen’s orbit in Season 2 for the South Korea operation. While Janus is less than pleased about this, he does appreciate the K-pop and delicious cuisine of Seoul.

Bruun has appeared in The Recruit creator Alexi Hawley’s previous series, The Rookie, as well as the sci-fi fave Orphan Black and the horror movie Ready or Not

You can follow Bruun on Instagram.

Kaylah Zander

Amelia Salazar

Amelia, another of Owen’s colleagues, has her eyes on the future. She works at the CIA General Counsel’s office, but she dreams of becoming a TV pundit. (Her  guest room doubles as a practice news anchor set.) She also previously enjoyed a fling with Owen — but that’s probably the last thing she would tell you about herself.

You can find Zander in two very different Netflix projects: the adorable family film Rescued by Ruby and the sexy-scary YA drama Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, in which she portrays the river witch Sycorax.

Maddie Hasson as Nichika Lashin in ‘The Recruit.’

Maddie Hasson

Nichka Lashin

We realize Nichka’s true identity — the daughter of Max Meladze (Laura Haddock) — at the end of Season 1. But Owen actually gets to know Nichka (and gets punched in the face by her, repeatedly) in Season 2. Like Owen, she’s someone who’s willing to follow through on her impulses if she believes they’ll lead her to success. Unlike Owen, she’s an untrustworthy asset whose decisions are easily swayed by whoever’s paying the most.

Hasson has been acting professionally for more than a decade, appearing in series including the teen thriller Twisted and the sci-fi drama Impulse.

Angel Parker

Dawn

This CIA case officer isn’t close to the action — Dawn is the action. Aided by her trusty ally Dodge (Jesse Collin), she will mow down anyone in her way. You don’t want to end up on Dawn’s bad side, but that’s almost exclusively where Owen stays.

Like her co-star Bruun, Parker appears in Hawley’s cop drama The Recruit. She has also lent her voice to various animated projects like Zootopia+.

Vondie Curtis-Hall

Vondie Curtis-Hall

Walter Nyland

Owen’s boss, the general counsel of the CIA, is an intimidating figure who doesn’t want to get caught up in Owen’s tangled web of espionage. Still, Nyland recognizes that Owen’s, well, unorthodox approach could help the Agency wriggle out of seemingly impossible problems.

To name just a few credits from Curtis-Hall’s legendary career: original cast member of the musical Dreamgirls, alum of five seasons of the groundbreaking medical drama Chicago Hope, the role of Captain Prince in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, and the part of struggling journalist Ben Urich in Marvel’s Daredevil. And don’t forget CrooklynDie Hard 2Eve’s BayouERThe SopranosBlue BayouBroken Arrow, and Harriet

Nathan Fillion as Alton West in Episode 205 of ‘The Recruit.’
Ricardo Hubbs/Netflix

Nathan Fillion

CIA Director Alton West

Even Owen’s boss has a boss — enter West, the no-nonsense director of the CIA. Fillion may be best known for starring in Hawley’s beloved crime procedurals Castle and The Rookie, but you’ll never confuse West for the lovable leads of those series. West will betray anyone if it means protecting the Agency.

“What’s been the most fun for me is to take this TV star who everybody sees as the most likable guy you’ll ever meet and turn him into an asshole,” Hawley tells Tudum. “West is very self-centered — a ‘get shit done’ kind of guy. And Nathan loved it.”

Fillion earned a SAG nomination for his work in Season 4 of Desperate Housewives

You can follow Fillion on Instagram.

Young-Ah Kim

Grace

The NIS is immediately suspicious of Owen and Janus when they land in Seoul, and Grace is the face of the investigation into their activities. She’s a savvy senior intelligence officer and single mother who’s under increasing pressure to discover what the CIA is up to in South Korea.

Kim has starred in various K-dramas, including Juvenile Justice, Remarriage & Desires, and Was It Love

James Purefoy as Oliver Bonner-Jones in ‘The Recruit.’

James Purefoy

Oliver Bonner-Jones

In Qatar, Owen meets Oliver, a rich, charming British businessman who operates somewhere between the legal and illegal.

You can find Purefoy in Altered Carbon and Sex Education. He also provides the voices of Kanjigar and others in Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia

Shin Do-hyun

Yoo Jin Lee

When Owen returns to Seoul — where he spent some time in his youth — he reconnects with his old friend Yoo Jin. She’s a free-spirited young woman with a passion for music.

Shin has also led the fantasy romance Doom at Your Service and the medical drama Hospital Playlist

You can follow Shin on Instagram.

Sanghee Lee

Nan Hee

Nan Hee is a passionate and nurturing Korean aid worker with a sly sense of humor. She is Jang Kyun’s wife.

Lee has starred in various Korean series like the zombie-apocalypse drama All of Us Are Dead and the nursing drama Daily Dose of Sunshine.

Omar Maskati as Jae King in The Recruit.’

Omar Maskati

Jae King

Hannah meets Jae, a jet-setting rich kid with a charming and affable personality. He soon becomes a client — and maybe something more?

Catch Maskati in the Emmy-nominated limited series Unbelievable and Nigerian Prince.

Laura Haddock

Laura Haddock

Max Meladze

When Max is put on trial for murder, she does what any former Russian asset desperate to survive would: Write to the CIA. Max hopes that she can leverage the sensitive, potentially dangerous information she gathered while working for US intelligence to free herself from prison. Season 2 picks up immediately after Max was killed by her own daughter, Nichka.

English actor Haddock starred in White Lines as a woman investigating her brother’s mysterious death and Da Vinci’s Demons as Leonardo’s romantic interest, Lucrezia Donati. On the big screen, Haddock played a 1930s silent-film actor in Downton Abbey: A New Era and Peter Quill’s mother in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
