To add to the excitement of an action-packed summer of soccer, Netflix released a new documentary highlighting the most prolific national team in history.
USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory details A Seleção’s 1994 FIFA World Cup victory in the United States, told from the perspectives of key players and rivals.
Premiering on June 7, the documentary includes exclusive footage recorded by two members of the Brazilian team — goalkeeper Gilmar Rinaldi and right-back Jorginho — plus interviews from the Italian national team. Brazil dramatically defeated Italy in penalty kicks to win the 1994 title, their fourth trophy at the time.
In addition to Rinaldi and Jorginho, Brazilian stars Romário, Bebeto, Branco, Raí, Zinho, Dunga, Márcio Santos, and Viola share their experiences in the documentary.
Gianluca Pagliuca and Demetrio Albertini of the runner-up Italian team appear to offer their own takes.
During the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Rinaldi filmed practices while Jorginho captured more than six hours of the team’s day-to-day experiences in the United States.
While Brazil is the most successful national team in FIFA World Cup history with a record five trophies, the 1994 victory marked a return to dominance after a disappointing 1990 tournament and a 24-year drought. Brazil won their fifth FIFA World Cup in 2002.
The premiere of USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory follows the recent releases of Emi Martínez: The Kid Who Stops Time, James., and Ronaldinho: The One and Only. These films highlight the lives and careers of the Argentinean, Colombian, and Brazilian legends.
The critically acclaimed sports documentary series Untold expanded its borders to feature English soccer through the stories of unlikely Premier League legend Jamie Vardy, Liverpool’s miraculous 2005 Champions League–winning team, and controversial professional player turned actor Vinnie Jones.
Additional soccer content on Netflix includes Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team — which documents the squad’s effort to win the 2023 title — the Emmy-nominated Beckham, Captains of the World, a José Mourinho episode of The Playbook, and Vini Jr.
Netflix will exclusively broadcast the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments in the United States and Canada.
