[Joanna] Because the closet was fully maxed out with shoes, and clothing, and accessories, there was nowhere to go unless we did a massive edit to make a big difference in there.
[man 1] Here we go.
Oh my goodness.
Holy smokes!
[Clea laughs]
[woman 1] God!
[man 1] Look at that!
[woman 1] This looks dope!
Ah!
[woman 2] She looks excited. I'm so excited because I love mess. When you touch the item that sparks joy for you…
[woman 2] Okay.
…um, you feel
Ching!
[woman 2] Okay. Ching! Okay, okay. All of your cells are rising.
[woman 2] Yes. Okay, wow.
[Joshua] Closets full of expensive clothes. All of these things that I brought into my life without questioning. But when I started letting go, I started feeling freer, and happier, and lighter. And now, as a minimalist, every possession serves a purpose. Sad is the condition of my house. Carol brings things in, but very little of it leaves.
[woman 3] We have filled 27 tons worth of trash. Come on in. Let's take a look around. You walk in the front door, and the family is smiling and wide-eyed.
Wow.
Wonderful. Wonderful. Angel is young. Angel is 22, and this is her first proper home. This place is a mess.
[Angel] Where am I? This is my home?
[Bobby] Your house.
[Angel] What? I am blown away.
[Karamo] Wow!
[Bobby] This is an adult lady's bedroom.
[Angel] Is that a gong?
[metallic clang]
[laughs]
[man 2] There are people that have shoes, then there's people that have a lot of shoes, and then there's Deanna. How many shoes do you have? Do you know? I think there's only, like, 65 or 70.
Seems totally reasonable.
[Deanna] Yeah. Said nobody ever.
[laughs] What we did was take the staircase, put it on barn door hardware, and it opens up.
And, if you'll see, on the backside…
Come on over. …it gave us an opportunity to give you a bunch of shoe storage!
[Deanna] I love it. So if it's acting as a studio, then that kind of becomes this bedroom corner.
Yeah.
I imagine that this wall goes.
[Omar] We thought that we would turn this space into a kitchen.
[Shea] That's great. The space is large enough that I think we could do an island
and a table.
A table. Okay.
[laughing] Oh my God. Wow.
[laughs] It's, like, not-- Like, it's-- I don't even know. Like, I can't have words-- I don't have words.
[laughs]
[Omar] It's a completely different space. There's a living room, there's, like, a little seating area, there's a dining room, there's, like, a full kitchen. Everything just comes together. It's exactly what we hoped for.
