[Mindy] They’re trying to make it work, mend their relationships with each other, and also manage a billion-dollar company, which, in this case, is the most famous basketball team in the world. Welcome to the team. I play Isla Gordon, who ends up becoming the president of the family business. I’m making you the president of the Waves. Kate has the energy of someone who is always up for a challenge, both in her real life and for the character.

I am motherfucking Isla Gordon!

[man] Say it again!

Everything OK? Oh my God!

[Isla screams] I’ve never done a 30-minute comedy. I think the thing that really highlights for me in this experience is how fucking amazing these actors are. You’re getting orange dust everywhere. Isla is a blonde white woman. She stains very easily. I’m — I’m sorry. OK. When you get an experience like this, it’s like a gift. Isla gets a chance to take over the team. She and her brothers have to work together, sometimes against each other, to run this basketball team. I guess it’s a Take Your Sister to Work Day or some… You know what I mean? [laughs]

[man 2] You define some guys who could kind of push her around a little bit without coming across as jerks. Is there anything else you would like to criticize about me? From certain angles, your ponytail makes you look bald.

[Ike] We lucked out with Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, and Justin Theroux. I’m going back to rehabilitation.

[Mindy] I really like writing shows about ambitious women. Whether they’re a 15-year-old girl in the Valley or freshmen in college or the president of a basketball team.

Playoffs, playoffs.

Dadadada! We don’t wanna jinx it! We are not talking about the P-L-A-Y-O-F-F-S.

We know how challenging it is to be a woman in a man’s world. It’s also really fun to make fun of ourselves sometimes in those environments.

[gags, coughs] It’s not just a man’s world. I mean, it’s men’s sports. You can’t get more testosterone in a room. Let me see that real quick. Hey! I play Ali Lee, who is the chief of staff and also Isla’s best friend.

Will you shut up?

Don’t tell me to shut up! I’m spiraling! Isla! No one knows more about basketball than you. I feel like no one pushes each other harder, because they have their, like, cheerleaders at work. I don’t mean this literally, but I want to have sex with you. I’ve written a lot of office comedies, but what’s so fun about doing behind-the-scenes of an NBA team is it’s so glamorous. This is just such a high-profile workplace.
