On Dec. 26, 1996, the morning after a loving family Christmas, John and Patsy Ramsey woke to discover their youngest child, 6-year-old JonBenét, was missing. A chilling ransom note was left downstairs. Later that day, John Ramsey foundhis daughter’s body in the basement, revealing the horrible truth that JonBenét had not been kidnapped, but was instead sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in her own home. The Boulder, Colorado police, who had little practical experience in homicide investigations, quickly cast suspicion on the Ramseys as the most likely suspects. This fanned the flames of media scrutiny and largely one-sided reporting, turning the case into a national obsession.
Twenty-eight years later, that obsession — and finger-pointing — hasn’t diminished, and the murder of JonBenét Ramsey remains unsolved. From Academy Award–nominated director Joe Berlinger (The Ted Bundy Tapes, Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hills), this three-part docuseries investigates missteps law enforcement and the media, ultimately revealing the relatively simple steps that can be taken to potentially solve the case at last. But will Colorado authorities take the necessary actions to bring JonBenét Ramsey’s killerto justice and allow the family to finally have peace of mind?
