[woman 2] It was a case that people couldn't stop talking about. Some people don't think it's ever gonna be solved.

[man] Prior to Christmas Day of 1996, we were just a regular family.

[man 2] And of course, then that all changed.

[John Ramsey] Someone killed this 6-year-old child.

[camera shutters clicking]

[man 3] Do you mind taking us through the day? 

[John Ramsey] It was just, um, unbelievable.

[dispatcher] Why don't you tell me what's going on, OK?

[Patsy Ramsey] We have a kidnapping. There's a note, and our daughter's gone.

[woman 3] It received national news attention right away.

[woman 4] JonBenét Ramsey was in child beauty pageants.

[woman 5] When you dress your child up, you might innocently attract a predator.

[woman 6] Was there an intruder, or was the family involved?

[man 4] The press was going wild. Burke's the killer. "This is crazy. He didn't write that note."

[woman 7] The amount was $118,000, which is really bizarre.

[man 5] The tabloids were crucial in pushing the narrative. They were untrue, unfounded, but that didn't matter. It was a good story.

[woman 8] People hated the Ramseys.

[John Ramsey] Like, oh, my God. How low can you go? 

[Patsy Ramsey] And bam! 

[John Ramsey] I did not kill my daughter JonBenét.

[man 6] The Boulder Police Department made a lot of mistakes early on in this case. 

[man 7] Was there a concern that some crucial evidence might have been lost?

[man 8] That lack of experience created a lot of problems in the crime scene.

[man 9] There is evidence of an intruder. I say this over and over and over again.

[man 10] If this case is ever going to be solved, we might be looking at the best chance right now.

[man 11] I love JonBenét, and she died accidentally.

[man 10] We've been ruling people out for the wrong reasons. Everybody should be back on the table. You have to go deeper.
