Erik: If anyone had written this for a script in Hollywood, Hollywood would’ve gone, “No way.”

[“Kids in America” by playing]

TV anchor: The Menendez case is one of the most infamous criminal trials in America. The brothers accused of the murder of their wealthy parents in Beverly Hills. It was like an incredible soap opera.

♪ Whoa … ♪

man: José was a successful businessman. Kitty was the caring mother. Two boys emblematic of wealth and privilege.

♪ We’re the kids in America … ♪

Why would you kill your parents?

[gun fires]

prosecutor: As the prosecutor, I knew it was plain old greed.

[Lyle speaking]

Now there’s a TikTok movement to free the Menendez brothers. There’s a new generation that support the brothers. People are looking at the case with fresh eyes.

[Erik speaking] That judge was determined he was gonna get a conviction.

woman 2: I’m telling you now it’s all fake, and if you don't know it’s fake, that pisses me off. There is no evidence saying they’re not guilty.
