“Brimful Of Asha” (Norman Cook Remix), Cornershop Initially released in 1997 and amassing more radio play once it was remixed by Norman Cook, this unlikely earworm is a celebration of Bollywood culture. The track plays during a scene where Vale looks back at all those other hobbies she tried in hopes of finding something other than filmmaking to obsess over — something, perhaps, more to her parents’ liking. All to no avail, of course.

“No estamos bien,” Kirnbauer Vale and Álex begin to bond by texting — incessantly. During a montage where they are finally seen opening up to one another (“Do you ever feel like no one really knows you?” “All the time”), we hear the vintage pop sounds of Kirnbauer: “We're not okay and that's okay,” she sings, “Who am I? I don't know where I'm headed, I don't exist today and I'm not in the mood to do so.”

“Todavía,” La Factoría  “Todavía” is arguably the anthem of the film. After all, this is the track that Álex sends Vale as the two bicker over having detention duties (that day, detention involved re-painting a mural). The pared-down version of La Factoría’s 2002 hit (performed by Dromedarios Mágicos) gets a smile out of Vale. He may not be able to share details of his life, but songs are a different story, right? Vale pokes fun at him for the corny song pick, but the two are later seen performing this very same reggaeton banger at karaoke together.

“En Visto,” Películas Geniales Vale is obsessed with films, so it makes sense to feature the aptly-titled Mexican indie band Películas Geniales (quite literally: Great Movies). With a song that’s all about the frustrations of being left on read (“en visto”), this is another instance where the lyrics are doing as much heavy lifting as the script — in this case, a moment where Vale sneaks out of her house to head to a local movie theater.

“Imaginate,” Nino & Esco What’s a rom-com without a great dance montage, really? Nino & Esco, a duo from the Dominican Republic, set the tone for a rowdy bar night where Vale and Álex's have yet another chilly in-person conversation. Brought along by their respective BFFs for an organized double date, the two clearly wish they were somewhere else.

“tdbn,” Bratty If you’re trying to decipher the meaning behind Bratty’s song title, you just have to sound it out: “todo bien” (“all good”). It’s fitting that this track plays as Álex and Vale start to realize how well they get along, planning fun activities together like ping pong and book browsing.

“Quédate,” Películas Geniales (feat. Kirnbauer & Axel Fiks) If you want to stage your very own Anónima prom, you’ll definitely need the vocal stylings of Películas Geniales. The Mexican group is a staple of the film and shares with it its bright, nostalgic sensibility, which really shines in the pink-hued party that closes out the film.

“Lovesick Girls,” BLACKPINK A little spoiler alert here: You have to admire the ballsiness of closing out your rom-com with a song that celebrates self-proclaimed “lovesick girls” who dare to say they know they’re going to be alone (“Didn't wanna be a princess, I'm priceless, a prince not even on my list”).
