The closing chapter of college can be challenging, and sometimes you need something to fill the void — something like a dog. At least that’s true for Fielding Marshall (Johnny Berchtold), who adopts a ridiculously adorable golden retriever mix named Gonker to ease the transition. The pair are inseparable until the rambunctious canine goes AWOL along the Appalachian Trail — then it’s up to Fielding and his dad (executive producer Rob Lowe) to find him. Dog Gone is directed by Stephen Herek (101 DalmatiansThe Mighty Ducks) and written by Nick Santora (Most Dangerous Game).

When’s the release date?

What happens in Dog Gone

Fielding is in his senior year at college, has just been broken up with and is searching for something to fill the void. Soon, it dawns on him: He needs a dog. Despite his best friend’s protestations, Fielding adopts Gonker, and soon, the pooch is bopping around campus, accompanying Fielding everywhere he goes. Then Fielding, the only one of his friends to be jobless post-graduation, moves home with his parents, John and Ginny (Kimberly Williams-Paisley). His dad’s a little displeased about his son’s directionless lifestyle until the two are forced to team up after Gonker goes missing along the Appalachian Trail. They have mere days to find the lost pup, who needs medication to survive.
