It’s never easy to catch Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), but last night she made the rookie mistake of being photographed. The stars of Enola Holmes 2 hit the red carpet for the new film’s premiere at the Paris Theater in New York on Oct. 27.
The upcoming sequel sees Enola take on her first case as an official detective. But when it spirals into a vast conspiracy, the amateur sleuth is going to need a helping hand. Paging elder brother Sherlock (Henry Cavill). One Holmes is usually more than enough to solve your average mystery — so what is it about Enola Holmes 2 that requires double the detective?
“One is enough until Sherlock gets involved!” Brown told Tudum on the carpet. “Obviously he has to implement his mansplaining.”
For all his brilliant qualities, the elder Holmes is still a celebrity sleuth, and that means he’s not always interested in cases that are, shall we say, less prestigious. Attempted assassinations or stolen diamonds? That’s a job for Sherlock. A missing matchstick girl? Better call Enola.

Still, when the pair find themselves working together, they wind up bringing out the best in each other. “I think you need emotional intelligence, and a kind of clinical intelligence as well,” director Harry Bradbeer added at the film’s premiere. “She reaches for the answers, he thinks things through in a more careful way.”
It isn’t easy having an overperforming sibling: expectations are higher, teachers look at you differently and meddling police constables have much less patience for your antics. But in Enola Holmes 2, the young detective rises to the challenge with aplomb — and more than a little good-natured competition.
“Enola is better at bringing people together,” said newcomer Hannah Dodd, who plays Sarah Chapman. “It’s something that she struggles with at first, but she learns that other people have their strengths.”

Even a certain pesky older brother? “Actually, his mansplaining comes in handy,” Brown admitted ruefully. Even a budding master detective could use a helping hand every once in a while.
Enola Holmes 2 hits Netflix on Nov. 4. Why not see if you can keep up with the Holmeses?
