There’s no better feeling than setting an out-of-office message, booking a flight, and taking that first sip of a cocktail while you lounge poolside. But you can’t always jet off somewhere beautiful at the drop of a hat. Sometimes, you have to settle for the next best thing: living vicariously through the people on your television screen.
While the backdrops might be lush, you probably won’t want to live out the plots of these murder mysteries, which feature plenty of twists, turns, and (you guessed it) murder. So pack your bags, sharpen your knives, and take a trip with these escapist whodunits.

Rian Johnson’s whodunit is the follow-up to Knives Out, and tracks the ultra-savvy Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), as he travels to a remote Greek island after receiving a mysterious invitation from a tech billionaire (Edward Norton). When one of the wealthy guests winds up dead, Detective Blanc must sniff out the murderer among the ensemble of colorful characters (Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Madelyn Cline, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jessica Henwick). The backdrop of this darkly funny murder mystery is crystal clear waters, blue skies, and a view that is literally to die for.

From a stunning boat in the Italian Riveria to the streets of Paris, Nick and Audrey Spitz’s (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) trips are never boring. In Murder Mystery, Nick brings Audrey on a long-awaited honeymoon, only for them to end up on the private yacht of a billionaire whose guests keep dying. In the second film, Murder Mystery 2, the couple have launched their full-time detective agency and must take on a personal case when their friend goes missing from his wedding. In both films, the duo must bond together to solve the puzzle and stop the killers.

Set in the Italian countryside, 7 Women and a Murder follows a group of women who come together on Christmas Eve only to discover the family patriarch dead the next morning. With a blizzard roaring outside, the women must solve the mystery of who killed him while knowing the murderer sits among them. The tone of the film is a bit like Clue, as it has a comedic edge to the unfolding mystery. Bonus: If you’re a fan of The White Lotus, you might recognize Sabrina Impacciatore, who plays Agostina in the film and was featured in Season 2 of the murder mystery series.

Set in Mexico, this film follows Agatha (Regina Blandón), a true-crime enthusiast who is invited to her half-sister’s luxury getaway with her posh friends. When someone winds up dead, Agatha quickly realizes this isn’t just an opulent yacht trip, but someone’s secret plot for revenge. Agatha will be forced to turn her hobby into a hunch when she seeks to identify the killer.

Set on the island of Nantucket, this six-episode murder mystery follows Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), who’s about to marry into one of New England’s wealthiest families. The series takes place over the Fourth of July weekend, and is based on the bestselling novel by Elin Hilderbrand. But pristine private beaches, gorgeous mansions, and perfectly trimmed lawns can’t distract from the fact that there’s danger afoot. Because not long after the festivities kick off, a dead body washes ashore and everyone in the wedding party becomes a suspect.

Based on the novel by Sarah Alderson, The Weekend Away follows Beth (Leighton Meester) and Kate (Christina Wolfe) as they travel to Croatia for a girls’ trip … only for Kate to wind up dead. When Croatian authorities point the finger at Beth, she must retrace her steps to try and get answers about how her friend died. Both the setting and plot in this twisty thriller will stun viewers, as we’re constantly left to question what the unreliable lead is capable of.
