When an 8-year-old girl disappears in the woods on a fractious family trip, her frantic mother will do anything to find her. Even if that means heading into danger herself when an uncontrolled wildfire breaks out nearby. Will she find her daughter in time to evacuate? Or will the pressure turn this family against each other once and for all? Firebreak is a Spanish thriller directed by David Victori (Sky Rojo). The film stars Belén Cuesta and Diana Gómez from Money Heist, as well as Joaquín Furriel and Enric Auquer.

What happens in Firebreak?

After the death of her husband, Mara (Cuesta) takes her 8-year-old daughter, Lide (Martínez), up to the family’s cabin to get it ready to sell. She also brings her brother-in-law, Luis (Furriel); his wife, Elena (Gómez); and their son, Dani (Arias). The trip is their last chance to say goodbye to the place Mara’s husband, a nature enthusiast, loved most in the world. While Lide hates the idea of selling the cabin and losing another piece of her dad, Mara is determined to pack away every memory. Lide’s only comfort is the fact that Mara promised her the whole family would visit some of her dad’s favorite spots before they left. But before the family can take their scenic walkabout, a wildfire breaks out nearby, and they’re ordered to evacuate.

It’s only after the van is loaded that Mara notices Lide is missing. She frantically calls the police, who search for as long as they can before it becomes too dangerous. Desperate not to lose her daughter right after she lost her husband, Mara makes a risky decision to ignore the evacuation order and search the smoke-filled woods herself. But she soon realizes there may be more to Lide’s disappearance than meets the eye.
