Romance can come and go, but there’s nothing like the love between two best friends. On Firefly Lane, Kate and Tully are those meant-for-each other pals. The series follows the women’s friendship from their childhoods on the titular street through the triumphs and heartbreaks of their adulthood, from career successes and personal achievements to romantic disasters and health struggles.
Starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as the adult Tully and Kate and Ali Skovbye and Roan Curtis as the protagonists’ younger selves, the drama returns for the second half of its second and final season on April 27. Until then, take a walk down Firefly Lane so you can remember who’s who and where you’ve seen its cast before.

Everyone knows Tully Hart as one of the most popular talk show hosts in the world. A smart, sexy force of nature, Tully has doggedly pursued her dream career in journalism since she was in college. But while much of America knows her name, there’s only one person who truly knows her well: her longtime best friend, Kate.
Heigl first broke out as the unforgettable Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy (after a few years as alien Isabel Evans on Roswell), before leaving TV behind to become the rom-com queen of the early 2000s (Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, The Ugly Truth and so many more).

Funny, sometimes shy Kate has dedicated her adult life to taking care of her family. But when she finds herself at a crossroads in her relationship and on the verge of divorce, she has to start at the bottom of the career ladder while raising her daughter — and leaning on her confident best friend, Tully.
“Getting to play a part spanning a few decades was such a unique experience, something I’ve never gotten to do before,” Chalke tells Tudum. “[You get to] figure out, ‘What did it feel like in your 20s, and how did you move and how did you stand in your heels and how did you grow into yourself emotionally?’ ”
Kate isn’t the only endearingly nerdy role Chalke has played — she’s best known as the klutzy Dr. Elliot Reid on Scrubs (or perhaps the new Becky on Roseanne, if you grew up on ’90s sitcoms). Like Heigl an iconic TV doctor, Chalke also played dermatologist/Ted Mosby love interest Stella on How I Met Your Mother and voices the part of veterinary surgeon Beth on Rick and Morty.

Tully is the mysterious cool girl when she and her mother first move to Firefly Lane in the ’70s, but once she befriends her neighbor Kate, it becomes clear that there’s plenty of insecurity behind that charismatic facade. Not to mention the fact that she’s basically raising herself, thanks to her mom’s addiction issues. While she’s the object of many of her classmates’ affection, her most important relationship is with best friend Kate.
“Being able to play strong, powerful women and have [the] story focus not on a romantic relationship, but a platonic relationship, is beautiful,” Skovbye tells Tudum.

Vancouver native Skovbye has acted since she was a kid, getting her start in British Columbia–shot series including Smallville, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, When Calls the Heart, Falling Skies and The Man in the High Castle.

Nerdy, fantasy-loving Kate is a loner before Tully moves in across the street and becomes her best friend, pulling the shy teen out of her shell as they become partners in crime (well, not real crime, just your typical teenage mischief).
Curtis tells Tudum that watching what Chalke did with the character in her adulthood was like “training wheels” for figuring out how the younger version of Kate would be. “Playing the young version of the character,” she says, “it was so fun to get to look at where Sarah’s at and be like, ‘How do we start so that we get to that point? How do we fill in that gap?’ ”

Also Vancouver-based, Curtis has plenty of TV credits from her hometown, among them: Smallville, Supernatural, Shut Eye, The Magicians, Charmed and The Good Doctor.

Kate and Tully meet Johnny in the newsroom at the the local TV station KPOC, and while there’s a bit of a triangle situation at first, it quickly becomes clear that he and Kate have a special attraction. Eventually, they marry — and when we meet the couple again in the 2000s, they’re in the process of divorcing.
Australian actor Lawson is not a Hemsworth brother, but he has played one on TV in The Good Place: the forgotten (read: fake) brother Larry. He also has his own actor sibling, and like many Aussie actors before him, he put in a two-year stint on Australian soap Neighbours before heading stateside. Films include Bombshell and No Strings Attached and he’s also had parts in the Netflix series Designated Survivor, 13 Reasons Why and Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings.

Few things are more complicated than a teenage girl’s relationship with her mother, and things are no different for Kate and her daughter, Marah, who’s 14 when we first meet her. But all the eye-rolling and door-slamming might be payback for all the trouble Kate got into with Tully in the ’70s.
You’ve seen Yurman on Netflix before — in one of her very first screen roles as “Tiny Freshman” in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. She’s also appeared in episodes of Once Upon a Time, The Man in the High Castle and Snowpiercer.

Tully’s hippie mom struggles to stay on the straight and narrow, forcing a young Tully to pick up much of the household slack. But despite Cloud’s drug and alcohol issues, she loves her daughter (and her daughter’s best friend, too).
While you may recognize Garrett from her recent stints on The Good Doctor and Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, she’s also put in time on series including Longmire and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and films including the rom-com classic Made of Honor and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Like many of his fellow Vancouver-born co-stars, McKinnon has made the TV rounds in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Kung Fu, A Million Little Things, Travelers, The Man in the High Castle, Altered Carbon, The Flash and Falling Skies, among others.

A sports reporter at KPOC in the ’80s, Danny has shared an on-again, off-again relationship with his one-time colleague (and competition) Tully over the years while he, too, was on the rise to national fame. Although Danny and Tully continue to share a simmering chemistry, they can’t seem to figure out the right timing for a genuine relationship.
Former daytime staple Serricchio — he has put in seasons on both General Hospital and The Young and the Restless — played mechanic Don West on Lost in Space before making his way to Firefly Lane. You can also catch him in episodes of Good Girls, Bones, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Witches of East End.

Brendan Taylor as Mutt (right) in Season 2 of Firefly Lane
KPOC cameraman Mutt harbors a crush on Kate, but after she gets together with Johnny he becomes a loyal friend to the couple and Tully.
While Taylor worked behind the scenes as a set dresser in his early film career days, he eventually moved in front of the camera and has appeared on series including Supernatural, The Arrangement, The Magicians and Arrow.

India de Beaufort as Charlie (left) in Season 2 of Firefly Lane.
Kate, Tully and Johnny first meet Charlie when she interns at KPOC in the ’80s. She’s always carried a torch for Johnny, and when they reconnect in Iraq in the 2000s, they finally have a chance to see if that romantic spark is there.
After starting out as a singer and then co-starring in the London-set comedy Run Fatboy Run, British-born de Beaufort headed to Hollywood, where she had stints in shows including One Tree Hill, Jane By Design, Blood & Oil, Younger, One Day at a Time, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Night Court.

Tully’s hardworking, supportive new agent tells her the blunt truth and is the one who suggests she start vlogging to build her audience after leaving her talk show. “She’s so self-aware and I love it. I want to be her,” Purdy told Tudum when the first half of Season 2 premiered. “I’m not her. It’s sometimes fun to get to play things that are just outside of your comfort zone. I want to be that boss b*tch!”
Purdy made a memorable appearance in the premiere episode of The White Lotus — and has had plenty other notable roles throughout the years, including in Wandavision, Orange Is the New Black, Breaking Bad, Donnie Darko, Under the Dome and more.

Greg Germann as Benedict Binswanger (left) in Season 2 of Firefly Lane.

Where haven’t you seen Germann? Iconic TV roles include Grey’s Anatomy and Ally McBeal, while standout film appearances include Clear and Present Danger and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
