The youngest heavyweight boxing champion in history. The “baddest man on the planet.” A legacy that transcends the ring. Mike Tyson’s name is attached to numerous labels and accolades — and on Oct. 13, the four-part documentary series TYSON will take an unflinching look at the triumphs, controversies, and personal cost behind one of the most compelling and polarizing figures in sports history.
From Tyson’s chaotic upbringing in Brooklyn, New York, to his meteoric rise to global superstardom, TYSON traces a life shaped by extraordinary success as well as fame, influence, and controversy. After stunning the boxing world and taking the heavyweight title at age 20, he reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Nearly four decades later, at age 58, he stepped back into the ring in 2024 to face Jake Paul in the most-streamed live sporting event of all time.

But Tyson’s story extends far beyond his professional accomplishments. His fighting career and personal life have also been marked by incarceration, financial strain, substance abuse, and in-ring controversies. With an unflinching gaze, TYSON examines the full range of those experiences — and the choices, pressures, and consequences that have shaped his legacy.
“Most people are too scared to look at their lives objectively, wanting to paint themselves as the hero of their own story,” Tyson says. “But if we are truly objective, we know we can never be the hero in our own story. We have to be able to face the man in the mirror — taking the good with the bad — to give a full account of our contributions in this life.”

Directed by Floyd Russ (Untold, American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing), TYSON unfolds across four hour-long episodes and features interviews with Tyson as well as his confidants and colleagues. Unfiltered and deeply personal, the series follows Tyson as he looks back at the greatness, turmoil, and transformation that has defined his life.
“Having an opportunity to share my story through the reflective lens of my growth and maturity … will be a challenging journey, yet a very [welcome] one,” says Tyson.
The series is produced by Jenna Millman, Jacob Miller, and Alexa Ginsburg, with Jim Gray, Ian Orefice, Amanda Spain, Jonna McLaughlin, Greg C. Lake, Michael Hughes, Douglas Banker, Floyd Russ, and Bill Simmons serving as executive producers. David Bolen and Jacob Møller are directors of photography, with music by Raffertie and editing by Wax Taber and Dan Duran.
TYSON premieres Oct. 13 on Netflix.
