🤐 SPOILER ALERT 🤐
Four years after the events of Murder Mystery, Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) are back, and they’ve got a whole new case on their hands. This time, the trail leads to an old friend’s wedding and then to France, where they find themselves entangled in a kidnapping plot. Along the way, they encounter suspects, both new and familiar, and ultimately prove their mettle near the top of the Eiffel Tower by piecing together a vast conspiracy. Just how did they crack the case? Read on to find out.
Murder Mystery 2 kicks off with a lavish wedding celebration courtesy of the Spitzes’ old friend, the Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar). But things quickly go sideways when the Maharajah disappears and his bodyguard is murdered. Soon, Nick and Audrey are once again on the run, tracking down the killer who holds their pal captive.
Everything comes to a head at Le Jules Verne restaurant, on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, where Nick and Audrey deduce the mastermind behind the scheme — it’s none other than master detective Conner Miller (Mark Strong), the MI6 hostage negotiator who’s been showing up the amateur sleuths the entire movie. Miller plans to abscond with the ransom money and leave the Eiffel Tower in ruins, but a confrontation with the Spitzes leaves him up close and personal with a helicopter blade. “Paris is so weird,” Jillian Bell’s Susan says in horror. All’s well that ends well…or is it?
Miller may have been the brawn of the kidnapping operation, but some quick thinking soon leads Audrey to the brains: the Maharajah’s own sister, Saira (Kuhoo Verma). Furious with her parents’ decision to leave her slacker brother the family business, Saira schemed to have him killed, only to be foiled by some slow-drying henna dye and an observant former hairdresser. The jealous sibling grabs a police officer’s gun and takes aim at the Maharajah, but Colonel Ulenga (John Kani) takes the bullet in his good arm and the Maharajah’s fiancée, Claudette (Mélanie Laurent), saves the day with a well-placed chair shot. OK, this time all’s well that ends well, right?
Before they head home, Nick and Audrey fortify their love with a symbolic padlock on a Paris bridge. But there’s just one more surprise in store for the duo — the Maharajah has sent an aide to lend them his helicopter and a bag full of cash in thanks for solving yet another mystery. Nick and Audrey head off on the honeymoon they deserve. All’s well that ends well!
Sorry. Not quite. Suddenly the Spitzes’ helicopter pilot drops his absurd European accent and holds the couple up at gunpoint, taking their bag of cash and parachuting out of the helicopter. Freeze-frame on Nick and Audrey stranded above Greece, Champagne spilled and honeymoon potentially ruined. How’re they going to get out of this one? “Well, first of all, they have to figure out how to land the helicopter safely,” director Jeremy Garelick tells Tudum. “They’re learning to fly a helicopter on the go as they’re approaching Greece. So we’ll see. But I can guarantee that there’ll be a huge damage bill at the end.” Classic Spitzes.
Murder Mystery 2 is streaming on Netflix now.
