Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston Laugh It Up at the ‘Murder Mystery 2’ Premiere

The two A-listers — and their glitzy co-stars — reveal who’s most likely to get away with murder in real life.

    March 29, 2023

What’s the secret to solving a murder? Well, if you ask Nick and Audrey Spitz, they might say it’s some good old-fashioned marital bickering. But for stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, who reprise their roles as the crime-solving couple in Murder Mystery 2, there was nothing but love at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on March 28.

Even so, Aniston, who was dressed in a silver Versace dress, and Sandler, who wore a white New York Knicks sweatshirt, couldn’t play it completely straight when they ran into each other on the carpet. “What the hell are you doing?!” Aniston yelled at her on-screen husband. “You texted me, ‘Please wear your sweatshirt,’” Sandler replied in defense. It turns out that it was all a playful miscommunication. “I said ‘Please don’t wear your sweatshirt,’” Aniston fired back.

The follow-up to the laugh-filled 2019 whodunit finds the squabbling Spitzes jet-setting to Paris for another high-stakes adventure. And in true Parisian fashion, the stars walked down a cobblestone street instead of the typical red carpet. From finely trimmed topiary to fresh baguettes on display, the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood was transformed into the City of Love.

Set four years after the Spitzes cracked their first case, the husband and wife are now full-time detectives with a struggling private-eye agency. When they’re invited to a private island to celebrate the wedding of their friend the Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar), the festivities quickly go south when someone turns up dead and the groom is kidnapped. The culprit could be any one of the glamorous guests — including the bride herself — and it’s up to the Spitzes to prove themselves and save their friend in the process.

“We both like to laugh. I giggle a lot and she stares at me a lot,” Sandler told Tudum. When asked who broke character the most, Aniston didn’t hesitate: “Adam!”

Filmed in Hawaii and Paris, the movie allowed the cast to get to know one another very well on set. In fact, they got so close that they weren’t shy about pointing fingers at which of their fellow cast member could get away with murder.

Adam Sandler (Nick): Mark Strong feels like he has murdered somebody.

Jennifer Aniston (Audrey): Whoever’s the most unassuming… me?

Mark Strong (Miller): I think Jen or Adam could pull it off. They’re both so charming. It’s always the ones that come at you smiling.

Dr. John Kani (Colonel Ulenga): I suspect Mark Strong. He looks a little mean-ish. He looks like he could do it.

Kuhoo Verma (Saira): Dr. Kani. I didn’t even have to think twice, honey! He has seven PhDs. I’ve never seen him eat a full meal and he’s ready to attack at any moment.

Mélanie Laurent (Claudette): I would go with Kuhoo. We worked together after the movie and I love her.

Enrique Arce (Francisco): Adam because it’s impossible not to like him.

Zurin Villanueva (Imani): Jennifer would get away with murder the easiest because she is so unassuming and she kind of distracts you with her charisma. No one would suspect her.

For those of you scoring at home, it looks like it’s a toss-up between Aniston and Strong. But why not decide for yourself when Murder Mystery 2 begins streaming on Netflix on March 31?
