It’s beginning to look a lot like awards season. The 37th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards nominations were announced this morning by Beanie Feldstein, Regina Hall and Naomi Watts. Netflix received nine nominations, including The Lost Daughter, for Best Feature and Best Screenplay; Prayers for the Stolen, for Best International Film; Procession, for Best Documentary; and Passing, for Best Cinematography.

Nominations for The Lost Daughter, based on the Elena Ferrante novel, also include Maggie Gyllenhaal, for Best Director, and Jessie Buckley, for Best Supporting Female. Other talent nods are Ruth Negga, for Best Supporting Female in Passing, and Lee Jung-jae, for Best Male Performance in a New Scripted Series in Squid Game — and for living all our dreams of getting slapped by Gong Yoo.

To qualify, eligible projects must meet a cutoff budget of $22.5 million. After going virtual in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Spirit Awards will return to Santa Monica Beach in-person on March 6.
