In the 1960s, a young wife and mother desperately teams up with an ex-Mossad agent to search for her kidnapped children after they’re abducted by her husband. Shunned by the close-knit Jewish community in Mexico she grew up in, the odds are against the soon-to-be divorcée as she heads off on an international chase.

No One Saw Us Leave is a dramatic thriller based on Mexican author Tamara Trottner’s memoir Nadie nos vio partir. The limited series stars Tessa Ia (Narcos: Mexico), Emiliano Zurita (Dance of the Forty One), and Juan Manuel Bernal (Monarca).

What happens in No One Saw Us Leave?

Valeria Goldberg (la) is stuck in a golden cage. She’s in an arranged marriage to Leo Saltzman (Zurita), the son of influential businessman Samuel Saltzman (Bernal). When she cracks under the pressure and makes an unforgivable misstep, the Saltzmans turn on her — they make plans to tear her away from her children and ruin her reputation among their insular and affluent community. On the advice of his overbearing parents, Leo takes his and Valeria’s two young children, Tamara (Siro) and Isaac (Varela), abroad to Europe without a word to Valeria about where they’re headed.

When Valeria realizes that her children are gone, she enlists the aid of Elías, an ex-Mossad agent turned P.I., to help her track them down. As Valeria and Elías chase Leo and the kids across the world, her desperation is compounded by her in-laws attempts to turn their shared community against her. Will Valeria ever reunite with her children? Or will the family she married into get away with their crimes?

Is No One Saw Us Leave based on a book?

Yes, No One Saw Us Leave is based on a memoir of the same name by Tamara Trottner. Taken from her familial home in early childhood, Trottner and her brother were separated from their mother without warning for a span of three years and relocated to multiple countries.

“I have just turned five,” Trottner says in the opening line of her memoir. “This is the last day of my childhood.”

Is No One Saw Us Leave based on a true story?

Yes, the limited series is based on the true story of a kidnapping that rocked an affluent Jewish-Mexican community in 1968, which Trottner later wrote about from her perspective as the kidnapping victim. Unlike Trottner’s memoir, however, the Netflix adaptation follows Trotter’s mother on her agonizing search to find her children.

Where does No One Saw Us Leave take place?
