Based on the English writer’s final novel of the same name, Persuasion is a tale as old as time about getting over one’s ex — and everything you shouldn’t do after a breakup. Anne Elliot (Dakota Johnson) is a nonconforming woman with modern sensibilities. While living with her upper-crust (read: judgey) family, she laments her former relationship with Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis) — the one that got away. When the dashing captain unexpectedly crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between moving on or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.

If there’s one thing Dakota Johnson loves more than Frederick Wentworth, it’s a sage green interior. Previously engaged to the man of her dreams, Anne Elliot ended her romance with Wentworth after her family persuaded her that he was no match for their social status. Now that the captain has returned — more distinguished and wealthier than before — Anne realizes that she made a mistake all those years ago. At a crossroads, she no longer wants to ignore her heart’s wishes.

Frederick Wentworth was determined to marry Anne, but the young naval officer was left brokenhearted after his lover’s family convinced her to dump him. When he returns as an established and well-respected captain, Wentworth is in the market for a wife again — but deep down, his heart’s still with Anne. Even with sorrow in his eyes, it’s hard not to risk it all for Cosmo Jarvis in this latest poster.

Henry Golding as Mr. William Elliot

Dapper and dressed to a T, Anne’s cousin, the wealthy widower William Elliot, is eager to wed again. He pines after her heart with his sparkling smile and chivalrous manners, but it’s unclear to Anne whether his intentions are pure. Protecting one’s heart might prove to be difficult when Henry Golding tips his hat and looks at you like that.

Nikki Amuka-Bird as Lady Russell

Gorgeous, gorgeous girls only want the best for their friends. After the death of Anne’s mother, Lady Russell steps in as a motherly figure for the young girl. Although Anne is deeply smitten with Frederick Wentworth, Lady Russell convinces her to reject the proposal because he’s beneath her. In favor of the aristocratic class, she’s always had the Elliot family’s best interest at heart.

Father knows best, but Anne’s starting to believe that maybe he convinced her to make the mistake of a lifetime.
