Class is back in session at the Elite Way School. But the same rules from last semester don’t necessarily apply in Rebelde.
Season 1 saw Jana (Azul Guaita), Estebán (Sergio Mayer Mori), Andi (Selene), Dixón (Jerónimo Castillo), Luka (Franco Masini) and MJ (Andrea Chaparro) band together (literally) to form Rebelde and compete in the climactic battle of the bands in the finale. But the Musical Excellence Program’s (MEP) new director, Mr. Bauman (Flavio Medina), is more into solo acts than musical groups. “My goal is to bring the MEP to the present,” he tells the class in the new trailer for Rebelde Season 2.

In his mind, anything goes... as long as you go viral. The trailer sparks off competition amongst all the students in the MEP, from Emilia (Giovanna Grigio) to Sebas (Alejandro Puente). We even see Andi move away from the drum kit and step into the spotlight in a scene from the trailer.
There are also some new students arriving on the scene who hope to make a name for themselves, including Okane (Saak), who was “sent here to clean up his act.” He strikes up a bond with Luka, asking him if he’s going to kiss him. How does Luka respond? The only way a Colucci can: “Not even if you paid me.”
We do see them get together later in the trailer though, along with Andi and Emilia still going strong. Not to mention Dixón and MJ finding their way to each other again after MJ’s betrayal at the battle of the bands. (But are we really surprised Dixón could have forgiven her? Not a chance.)
But that’s not all: The trailer gives us sneak peeks of Mr. Bauman expelling a student, two people getting carried off in gurneys and someone falling off the roof of the school. Can you say, “Ay dios”? This is EWS we’re talking about, after all.
Rebelde is never lacking for music — or drama. Season 2 premieres on July 27 on Netflix.
