Margarita night can be anywhere, as long as you’re with your best friends.
Get a first look above at Serenity’s favorite trio — Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) — as they take a bite out of the Big Apple in Sweet Magnolias Season 5, premiering June 11.
Season 4 ended with Maddie receiving a major job offer to work in publishing in New York City, and if we know anything about this lifelong sisterhood, no distance could keep them apart for long. “The reason we even raised the question here at the end of Season 4 was because we feel so many women are confronted with, ‘Am I allowed to put myself first this one time?’ ” showrunner and executive producer Sheryl J. Anderson told Tudum. “And how complicated it is for somebody like Maddie, with a new marriage, with kids still in the house, with dear, dear friends that you have seen every day your entire life. She’s so deeply woven into the community. Does that mean she has to say no to a dream?”

Last season, Anderson shared the overall theme for our heroines was to “seize your passion.” So it’s no wonder they’re taking that to heart with a girls’ trip to New York City in Season 5. “We are thrilled to let the Magnolias take Manhattan,” said Anderson. “Not only is this adventure huge fun, it’s also an opportunity to explore the facets of their relationships in a new context. While it’s crucial to have true friends in day-to-day life, it’s priceless to have them supporting you when you leap out of your comfort zone.”
Based on the bestselling novels by Sherryl Woods, Sweet Magnolias has shown these three best friends be there for each other through all the ups and downs of their relationships, friendships, families, and careers over the last four seasons in their small town of Serenity, South Carolina. Whether these BFFs are in their hometown or beyond, expect things to only get sweeter in Season 5.
Catch up now on Sweet Magnolias Seasons 1–4, only on Netflix. And tune in June 11 when the series returns.
