How many actors, executives and Gen Z TikTok stars does it take to film a gory, dinosaur-filled, possibly life-threatening blockbuster during a global pandemic? In the case of Cliff Beasts 6, the movie at the center of The Bubble, it takes a gaggle of zany characters. (Not to mention, a lot of rapid tests.) The dark comedy, directed by Judd Apatow, sees this ragtag cast try to safely and successfully shoot the film while navigating personal issues, grievances with each other and the ever-present threat of COVID-19. But as production continues, it becomes clear that no one in the bubble prepared for every worst-case scenario.

Even if you’re a newcomer to the Cliff Beasts franchise, you’ll recognize a lot of familiar faces among this fictional cast and crew. Here’s everyone who made it into the bubble — no spoilers on who makes it out.

After missing the last Cliff Beasts film to shoot the universally panned drama Jerusalem Rising, Carol’s ready to reprise her role as Dr. Lacey Nightingale… and, hopefully, get her career back on track. But her personal life and professional star power are both starting to fray at the seams, and the added complications of a worldwide pandemic certainly aren’t helping.
Gillan first made a name for herself as Doctor Who’s Amy Pond, but today, she’s known for portraying Nebula in the only franchise that might be bigger than Cliff Beasts: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You also might’ve seen her in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, its sequel Jumanji: The Next Level and Gunpowder Milkshake.

Starring alongside Carol is Dieter Bravo, an Oscar-winning actor but a newcomer to the franchise. Like Dieter, Pascal has a pretty impressive filmography — he played Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones and also the villainous Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984. Most notably, though, he plays the titular role in The Mandalorian, a character you can also catch in the other Disney+ Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett.

Duchovny’s Dustin Mulray plays Dr. Hal Packard, another heavy hitter in the Cliff Beasts film series who’s constantly itching for more control. Duchovny is best known for his portrayal of the very spooky FBI agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files and, later on, Californication’s Hank Moody. Soon, he’ll join co-stars Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the Kenya Barris–directed You People.

Rounding out the main cast is Lauren Van Chance, Dustin’s very on-again, off-again romantic interest, who plays Dolly — and is skeptical about Carol’s motives for returning to the franchise. Mann has starred in comedies including Blockers, Knocked Up, Funny People and This Is 40. She’s also voice-acted roles in Rio, Rio 2 and The Croods: A New Age.

Like many of Fred Armisen’s characters, Cliff Beasts 6 director Darren Eigan is a bit of an oddball. But with Cliff Beasts 6, he’s extremely in over his head. Chances are, you’re familiar with Armisen from his 11-year stint on Saturday Night Live or maybe Portlandia, which he wrote, executive produced and co-created with Carrie Brownstein. He’s also guest-starred on series like Broad City and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and he co-created the beloved Los Espookys.

Annika, a hotel concierge at the site of the shoot, forms a connection with Dieter. A Bulgarian actress, Bakalova reached international fame with her Oscar-nominated turn as Borat’s daughter in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. Most recently, she was in the star-studded cast of the A24 slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies, which premiered at SXSW in March. Next up, she’ll produce and appear in the upcoming rom-com The Honeymoon (opposite Emily in Paris heartthrob Lucas Bravo).

Sean Knox is a hilarious, high-energy actor playing Cliff Beasts’ Colt Rockwell, and he wants you to know that he may have created his own religion, but he definitely did not start a cult. Key is most famous for his sketch comedy, especially on Mad TV and, later, Key & Peele. He’s also been in movies like Dolemite Is My Name and Tomorrowland and voice-acted characters in The Lion King, the upcoming Wendell and Wild and more.

Krystal, who plays franchise newbie Vivian Joy, is tasked with the impossible job of keeping up her lucrative TikTok career while freshening up the Cliff Beasts cast a bit. This isn’t Iris Apatow’s first time working with her parents (Mann and Apatow): She appeared in Knocked Up, This Is 40 and Funny People. You also might have seen her on Netflix’s rom-com series Love.

Without spoiling too much, the Jack Black–like comedic actor Howie ends up playing a pivotal role in the chaos on the Cliff Beasts set. Khan starred in Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral series, Man Like Mobeen and the Idris Elba series Turn Up Charlie.

No-nonsense producer Gavin is determined to shoot the best film of the pandemic with very few snags. That, um, doesn’t exactly happen. Serafinowicz is known for his sketch comedy, but he also starred in The Tick and has voiced characters in Neo Yokio, Bob’s Burgers, His Dark Materials and more.

Behind every successful movie is an omnipresent EPK guy, and in the Cliff Beasts universe, that guy is Scott. In real life, Kocher is known for his stand-up and sketch comedy, which has brought him everywhere from the Upright Citizens Brigade stage to CollegeHumor. He’s also written for Saturday Night Live.

Gunther has an imperative behind-the-scenes role as Cliff Beasts’ on-site COVID Compliance Officer. The Bubble marks Trevaldwyn’s first major project, besides The King, but you might still recognize his comedic chops from around the internet.

Vitalis plays a production coordinator, and is often seen enforcing Gavin’s rules. She recently played a younger Arabella in I May Destroy You, and her other credits include the TV series Youngers and This Way Up and the 2011 horror film Attack the Block.

No one really knows what Carla — the stunt coordinator’s daughter — is doing on set, aside from rocking some serious black eyeliner and hanging out with Krystal. The Bubble is Hopper’s debut role.
