It’s a perfect evening in the OC. The sun is setting. The waves are softly crashing. But then, all of a sudden, the Selling the OC realtors begin to chant, “Who wants a nosey? Who! Who! Who!” Suddenly, Tyler is complaining about the smell of In-N-Out and Kayla is grossed out in a confessional. So what exactly just happened? What is a nosey? Let Alex Hall explain.
“It's where you put your mouth over someone's nose and you blow really hard so that the air comes out of their mouth,” Alex tells Tudum. “It’s so disgusting, but it's quite hilarious.”

During that scene on the beach, captured in Episode 3, Alex has just given Tyler a nosey. It’s a fitting turn of events, since Alex is actually the person who brought the practice — which becomes a running plotline throughout Selling the OC Season 1 — to the Oppenheim Group’s Orange County offices. As Tyler Stanaland, a lifelong OC native, tells Tudum, “It's not an OC thing. It's an Alex Hall thing.”
“A nosey is a weird family thing that we do,” Alex says. “It makes a very disgusting sound and it catches the person off guard… I do it to my children. My mom does it to me. It gets even grosser: We do it to our dogs.”

That’s why Alex insists that a nosey, however unattractive it happens to be, is a totally innocent practice. She compares them to childhood “wet willies.” Alex gave “everybody” noseys one night and it became an office trend, according to Tyler.
Still, their O Group colleagues are split on the topic. Some, like Alex’s office pal Brandi Marshall, find them simply unappealing. “Noseys are nasty. I'm not putting my mouth in or near anyone's nose. I don't want boogers in my mouth,” she says. Others in the cast are also divided, finding them “flirtatious,” “grotesque” and “unprofessional.” As Alexandra Rose, who’s never personally been given a nosey, says, “I don't think that people should be doing that to each other, especially when other people are married.” And yet, Polly Brindle and Sean Palmieri have both found the experience decidedly unsexy when they’ve been given noseys.
“It's not pleasant. I would not recommend [it]. A minus 2 in enjoyability for sure. It's not sexual,” says Polly, who still hasn’t given one to anyone else, “It's more like stupid kid stuff.”
Tyler just wants noseys to die with Selling the OC. “It is the worst thing ever. I hope it's something that ends with our group,” he says. “I hope it's something that you never have to experience.” Us too, Tyler. Us too.
