The romantic comedy The Wrong Paris follows a down-home Texas girl with big dreams. After getting into art school in Paris, Dawn (Miranda Cosgrove) is overjoyed — but quickly realizes she can’t afford to live there. In comes The Honeypot, a popular dating reality series whose upcoming season is set in the City of Lights. If Dawn can get on the show, she’ll get a big fat check to pay for housing overseas. When she miraculously ends up a contestant, however, it turns out her Parisian future is … in Texas. Paris, Texas, to be exact. After the show’s producers bait-and-switch, the ladies are introduced to a fiery-hot cowboy bachelor, Trey (Pierson Fodé). Now Dawn’s sole mission is to get eliminated as fast as possible. Which will be easy, right? It’s not like she’ll fall for a hunky rancher or anything.
The Wrong Paris also stars Yvonne Orji and Frances Fisher. The movie was directed by Janeen Damian — who’s directed Lindsay Lohan in both Irish Wish and Falling for Christmas — and written by Nicole Henrich.
“I’m a huge rom-com lover, and one of the reasons I enjoy this genre so much is because of the aspect of escapism,” Cosgrove tells Netflix. “I hope people have fun seeing all the crazy and ridiculous physical comedy, as well as the more heartfelt moments.”

Budding artist and sculptor Dawn was born and raised in a small Texas town, where she now cares for her grandmother and younger sisters. But once she gets accepted into art school in Paris, she’s desperate to go. The only hurdle is paying for a trip to get there. Her sister, who’s a superfan of the dating show The Honeypot, tells Dawn to apply for the upcoming season, which is, coincidentally, taking place in Paris. If Dawn’s chosen, she’ll get paid for appearing on the show, then plans to swiftly eliminate herself so she can stay in France for school. Dawn applies, and makes the cut. She’s off to Paris! Except … as Dawn and the other contestants land in Paris, they get the surprise of a lifetime. In a bad way. They’re in Paris, Texas — just 45 minutes away from Dawn’s hometown. But when they meet their cowboy prince charming, Trey, they’re so busy swooning over his abs they hardly care where they are. Dawn, on the other hand, is still focused on her mission: Get eliminated and pocket the cash for art school. But as Dawn gets to know Trey, their undeniable chemistry threatens to divert her Parisian plans once more.

The film takes place in Texas.
The rom-com was shot in Canada — Vancouver, British Columbia, to be exact.
