Lana Condor Enrolls in XO, Kitty Season 3

Watch a behind-the-scenes look at the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before star reuniting with Anna Cathcart.

It’s a family reunion on XO, Kitty Season 3: Lana Condor, who played lovelorn high schooler Lara Jean Covey in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies, has joined the cast of the spin-off series starring Anna Cathcart as LJ’s matchmaking younger sister, Kitty Song Covey.

In this special behind-the-scenes look at Condor’s time on set, which you can watch above, the onscreen sisters reunite as their characters for the first time in four years. The last time they filmed together was in Seoul for To All the Boys: Always and Forever, the third film in the franchise, so to be able to reunite in South Korea was extra special, Cathcart tells Netflix.

“It feels like no time has passed. I feel like we’ve slipped right back into our dynamic,” she says. “One of my favorite parts of the To All the Boys universe is the sisterhood, and having Lara Jean here for Kitty brings out a side of Kitty we haven’t seen before in the series.”

The last time we saw LJ, she was headed off to college. Now it’s four years later, and she’s pursuing a writing career while her little sister is preparing for her senior year of high school at KISS, the Korean Independent School of Seoul. When things get difficult and confusing, Kitty calls up her sibling for some sisterly advice.

“It’s such a joy to be able to come back and see Anna,” Condor tells Netflix of her return to the franchise. “I think she did an amazing job creating the XO, Kitty world. It’s such a dream to be able to work with her again. I feel really excited and happy and honored I get to be back.”

In Season 3 of XO, Kitty, the youngest Covey sister returns for her senior year at KISS with the perfect year mapped out: She’s going to make meaningful memories with her friends, grow closer to her relatives in Korea, and make big decisions about her future. And she’s going to define her relationship with Min Ho. For real this time. But surprise revelations throw her plans — and relationships — off course, forcing Kitty to learn to embrace the unexpected.

While romantic love is important, showrunner Valentina Garza tells Tudum, it’s only part of what we need to be a well-rounded and cared-for person. “Kitty has so many really important decisions that she has to make this year as she launches herself into adulthood, and there’s no one better to help her in that journey than Lara Jean,” Garza explains. “Kitty is able to be there for Lara Jean when she gets in a rough patch with Peter at the beginning of the season. And when Kitty finds herself in a similar rough patch, Lara Jean drops everything and flies to Seoul to give her that big sisterly advice that she needs.” In the four years LJ has been offscreen, she’s become uniquely qualified to dish out advice because “she’s done that work of self-reflection and growth herself.”

Cathcart tells Tudum that what Kitty seeks from her middle sister is a reminder of her true essence. “No one on the planet humbles each other more and hypes each other up more than a sister,” she says. Cathcart’s own sister is her best friend. “I will tell her at any given point if she’s out of line or if her outfit looks bad, but I will also remind her that she’s the coolest, most amazing, most gorgeous person in the world.”

And while the youngest Covey sister has always had an independent spirit and wise-beyond-her-years confidence, “I loved getting to see Kitty be a younger sister again too,” Cathcart says. “She’s still a teenager, she’s still a kid, and she’s learning from the people around her. So much of who she is she learned from her older sisters, and we get to see that highlighted because Lara Jean is there.”

Previous seasons of the series have featured other stars of To All the Boys, including Noah Centineo as LJ’s devoted boyfriend, Peter Kavinsky, and Janel Parrish as the oldest Covey sister, Margot, in Season 2; and John Corbett and Sarayu Blue as Kitty’s dad and stepmother in Season 1.

XO, Kitty Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
