When life gets you down, sometimes you have to get creative. That’s exactly what Liza (Sutton Foster) does when she realizes that starting fresh is going to be more difficult than she originally hoped. After a messy divorce from her husband and with her daughter moving across the world, Liza’s ready to reboot her life. Things may not have turned out the way she thought, but Liza soon learns — with the help of her fresh-faced new pal, Kelsey (Hilary Duff) — that it’s never too late to try something different.

All seven seasons of the sitcom Younger from creator Darren Star, also known for Beverly Hills, 90210 and Sex and the City, are available to stream on Netflix in the US. Here’s everything you need to know before you dive into the comedy series.

What happens on Younger

The series follows Liza Miller (Foster), a recently divorced woman in her 40s who is figuring out how to navigate her personal and professional life in New York City now that she’s on her own. But starting a new career at her age proves difficult, which Liza realizes when she struggles to land a job in publishing. When her BFF Maggie (Debi Mazar) takes her out one night to distract her from her struggles, Liza meets 26-year-old Josh (Nico Tortorella), who mistakes her for someone much younger.

After her encounter with Josh, and with some convincing from Maggie, Liza decides she’s done playing by the rules and comes up with a plan: she just has to be younger. So Liza pretends to be a twentysomething in order to get an entry-level job as an assistant to Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) at the publishing house Empirical Press, where she befriends 26-year-old Kelsey (Hilary Duff). In the process, she gains a new sense of confidence and learns that it’s never too late to be whoever she wants to be.

Now with a new job, an attractive young love interest, and a budding friendship with her new co-worker — at a company led by a handsome executive (Peter Hermann) — Liza just has to make sure nobody finds out the truth about her age.
