After four seasons of gold chases, near-death escapes, and enough chaotic antics to keep us entertained for decades, the Kildare crew are about to embark on their final grand adventure when Outer Banks Season 5 debuts on Aug. 20.
To celebrate in true Pogue style, the cast of Outer Banks got together on Aug. 15 in Los Angeles for Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event. There were interviews with the cast, trips down memory lane, a screening of the first episode of Season 5 … and plenty of true Pogue chaos. The event also featured the first and only Official Pogue Awards. Not the kind buried under a centuries-old church or sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic — we’re talking crowning our cast for their many accomplishments. You, the fans, voted and the results are in. You can watch the cast accept the awards in the video below.

So which Pogue snagged which award? First up, the cast of My Life with the Walter Boys took to the stage to present the accolade for the Pogue Post That Made Waves. Madelyn Cline (Sarah) was crowned the winner for the “No You Don’t, Topper” viral sound and dance trend.
While accepting the golden chicken (yes, that’s what the trophies resembled!), Cline was asked what she would say if she could send one text message to her Season 1 self. “Strap in and buckle up, babe,” she said. “It’s going to be a bumpy ride.” Cline also thanked the fans for loving the show so much over the past six years, adding, “It’s been such a special experience.”
Next up, was the award for the Most Dramatic Plot Twist Involving an Obscure Historical Clue. Of course, Jonathan Daviss (Pope) snagged the award for uncovering the Cross of Santo Domingo. JD took to the stage to accept the award and shared how he would explain who he is to the rest of the Pogues in a few words: “Fun, loyal, loving, — and probably you should sleep more.”
Then it was Drew Starkey’s (Rafe) moment to shine, when Crew Girl’s Miku Martineau presented him with the accolade for Coolest Kook Doing Kook Things (While Wearing Sunglasses). In real life, Starkey is also feeling the Kook life. When asked what the least Kook thing about him is, he answered, “Nothing. Kooks for life.”
What about the award for Best Scene We Can’t Explain (Yet)? That one could only go to Carlacia Grant (Cleo) for the clip of her blowing up the beloved Twinkie. “I appreciate you, the fans, my cast, our show creators and writers, everyone here in this room,” said Grant as she accepted the award. “We’d be nothing without you.” When asked what Cleo taught her that she’ll bring into the real world, Grant answered: “Taking up space like Cleo. She’s unapologetically who she is. She rides for her friends, and she doesn’t ask for space — she takes it. She’s the definition of a bad girl.”
When it came to the category for I’m a Pogue, I do Pogue Things, Madison Bailey had to win, of course, for Kiara’s spray-painting activism. The cast of The Sticks were onstage to hand Bailey the golden chicken, and she was asked this revealing question: “What’s the wildest thing you’d do for this cast, no questions asked?” Bailey gave an iconic answer: “You don’t want to know. A better question, “What wouldn’t I do for this cast?” I’d rob a bank, I’d bail you out of jail, whatever you need — redacted, redacted, redacted! I’d do a lot!”
Last up, it was the Line That Lives in Your Head Rent-Free category. While there was certainly tough competition, in the end the award went to Chase Stokes for John B’s iconic “Our mission this summer is to have a good time all the time …” Stokes himself delivered this line live from a seat in the audience, which served as the announcement that he’d won the award.
“To everybody who watched this show starting April 15, 2020, thank you,” said Stokes. “Thank you for coming on this ride with us. We really hope you enjoyed this last season. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
Asked what he hoped John B’s legacy would be, or what message he’d want his character to leave behind, Stokes said, “I’m gonna try to bring it on home on this one. I think as we go through our teenage years, we make a lot of mistakes, and we make a lot of choices that we feel define us, that make us feel like we’re supposed to have it all together — and the reality is, it’s OK if you don’t. It’s OK to slip, it’s OK to fall, and it’s OK to make mistakes. So I hope that if you’ve watched John B along the way, he’s made you feel like mistakes are part of the journey of life.”
And then there was one additional award. The whole cast returned to the stage to award the fans for being there — whether they were there from the beginning or joined the crew later, the fans have always proved their dedication through hilarious memes and heartfelt edits. Their constant support turned the show into a phenomenon. While the cast didn’t have a golden chicken for everyone, they did share with the fans a montage of clips from the show and BTS moments.
