How Real-Time Voting Put Viewers in Control of the Star Search Finale

The outcome was decided entirely by fans at home using Netflix’s new real-time-voting feature.

Feb. 18, 2026

After four weeks of live performances, Star Search concluded with a groundbreaking finale on Feb. 17 — one that handed full control to the audience. Hosted by Emmy- and Golden Globe–nominated actor Anthony Anderson, with judges Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen, the 2026 reboot reintroduced the iconic franchise as a high-stakes, fan-powered live competition.

Throughout the season, audience votes helped shape the competition alongside judges’ feedback. But in the finale, the judges didn’t vote at all. For the first time this season, the outcome was determined 100% by viewers watching live on Netflix — a format shift that ultimately led to magician TJ Salta being crowned the winner.

Below is a breakdown of how the finale worked — and how real-time voting changed the game.

How VOTING WORKED IN THE

Star search FINALE

Real-time voting is a new Netflix feature, and the Star Search finale marked its most ambitious use yet. Over the course of the episode, viewers at home were invited to vote nine separate times, with each vote directly impacting the final outcome.

THE FINALE FORMAT

  • The episode opened with four head-to-head matchups between the eight finalists advancing from Episodes 7 and 8.
  • Viewers rated each performer on a five-star scale, with one vote per performer — eight votes total in the opening round.
  • The four top-scoring acts advanced to a final, multiple-choice vote.
  • One last audience vote determined the winner.

In total: nine chances to vote, zero judges’ scores — and a finale shaped entirely by fans.

MORE on REAL-TIME VOTING

1. Watch the episode LIVE.

To vote, you need to watch Star Search as it streams live.
If you rewind, pause for too long, or join late, you’ll miss the limited voting window.

2. Use a supported device.

Real-time voting is available on most newer devices, including:

  • Smart TVs
  • Streaming devices (Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, etc.)
  • Mobile apps (iOS and Android)

Voting is not available on web browsers.

If you’re watching on a laptop, grab your phone or switch to TV before the voting window opens. For more information, visit the Netflix Help Center

3. Follow the onscreen prompts.

When it’s time to vote, a rating prompt will appear on your screen.

  • On TV: Use your remote to select 1–5 stars for each performance.
  • On the Netflix mobile app: Tap the number of stars you want to give.

You can submit one rating per Netflix profile per performance. Once submitted, your vote is final.

Results for each voting round are revealed live during the episode — no waiting until next week.

4. Keep watching — you’ll be able to vote more than once.

Voting happens multiple times per episode, with rounds opening up during select moments — and all votes build toward the live finale, when the audience chooses the winner.

Be sure to stay tuned during each performance break. Voting prompts appear only during designated windows.

What’s new in the 2026 Star Search reboot?

Hosted by Anthony Anderson, the new Star Search features an expert panel of judges, a broader mix of performers (from musicians and dancers to comedians, juniors, and variety acts), and — most importantly — real-time audience voting that directly shapes the competition as it unfolds.
