[exciting music playing]
[TITLE CARD] WEDNESDAY SEASON 2: 30 EASTER EGGS
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
[electricity crackling]
[Clip] Emma Myers (as Enid Sinclair): I did get you a gift.
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): I got you a gift as well. It's made from real human hair.
[bell ringing]
[EASTER EGG #1]: Episode 1 flashes back to Wednesday’s youth.
We see the victims of the Kansas City Scalper.
The dolls in the serial killer’s basement are wearing the same outfits as his victims.
[CLIP] Karina Varadi (as Young Wednesday): Before dying, victim number 11 described the suspect.
[haunting, upbeat music playing]
[CLIP] Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nayo (as Deputy Santiago): Care to explain?
[CLIP] Fred Armisen (as Uncle Fester): I love to travel. It's my passion.
[EASTER EGG #2]: Uncle Fester has 33 driver’s licenses and 18 passports — and yes, Fred Armisen posed for them all.
Fred Armisen even shaved his head for Fester’s bald look.
[exciting music playing]
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): Thanks for coming on such short notice.
[CLIP] Fred Armisen (as Uncle Fester):I For my favorite niece, I'm always a lurk away.
[CLIP] Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams): I'm sure Thing can help me find what I'm looking for.
[exciting music continues]
[EASTER EGG #3]: To keep Thing’s makeup intact, on filming days actor Victor Dorobantu did everything single-handedly (literally).
Including getting dressed and eating lunch.
[CLIP] Steve Buscemi (as Principal Dort): Allow me to introduce myself. Barry Dort, your new principal.
[intriguing orchestral music playing]
[EASTER EGG #4]: Principal Dort’s entire look (even Steve Buscemi’s wig) was based on Edgar Allan Poe.
There’s also a portrait of Edgar Allan Poe in the principal’s office.
[CLIP] Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams): This is the first time you've willingly returned to a school.
[EASTER EGG #5]: The four Nevermore houses are inspired by Shakespearean characters.
Wednesday and Enid live in Ophelia Hall, a nod to Hamlet.
Pugsley and Eugene live in Caliban Hall, named after a character from The Tempest.
Thisbie Hall and Puck Hall are both references to A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
[CLIP] Luis Guzmán (as Gomez Addams): Caliban Hall. My old stomping ground.
[CLIP] Joy Sunday (as Bianca Barclay): Guess the Nightshades are back.
[upbeat string music playing]
[crackling]
[EASTER EGG #6]: You can spot the Nevermore House Sigils on the student’s jackets.
[EASTER EGG #7]: This season draws inspiration from these classic films:
‘Frankenstein’ (1931)
‘Night of the Living Dead’ (1968)
‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ (1975)
[CLIP] Evie Templeton (as Agnes deMille): Can I get your autograph?
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): I only sign my name in blood.
[EASTER EGG #8]: The cool blue tones of Wednesday’s makeup are meant to give her an almost-dead appearance.
[CLIP] Joanna Lumley (as Grandmama Hester Frump): The only people who deserve to be buried in this dump are the maintenance staff.
[EASTER EGG #9]: Grandmama Hester Frump’s style, especially her hair, is largely influenced by Daphne Guinness.
[CLIP] Joanna Lumley (as Grandmama Hester Frump): The plot thickens. What's next?
[EASTER EGG #10]: The crew tried 36 different glasses before finding the perfect one for Grandmama’s signature Blood Mary.
[all applauding]
[CLIP] Steve Buscemi (as Principal Dort): At Camp Outcast, there are no cellphones. And no Normies for miles.
[intense music playing]
[EASTER EGG #11]: The new season was filmed in and around Dublin.
Charleville Castle served as the corridors of Nevermore Academy.
The production also went to Kilternan, Clonliffe, and Roundwood.
[EASTER EGG #12]: Some sets were built where ‘Vikings: Valhalla’ filmed.
[blades slicing]
[EASTER EGG #13]: The swords for the Camp Jericho duel were inspired by Barcelona architect Antoni Gaudí.
The hand guards of the weapons share Gaudi’s signature spindles and twisted lines.
[Morticia grunting]
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): You're getting rusty, Mother. I can practically hear you creak.
[swords clashing]
[EASTER EGG #14]: Jenna Ortega and Catherine-Zeta Jones first performed the blindfolded sword fight themselves.
Stunt doubles then replicated their choreography for the five-section fight.
[CLIP] Joy Sunday (as Bianca Barclay): I love what you've done with the place.
[CLIP] Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams): Thank you.
[intriguing string music playing]
[EASTER EGG #15]: Building Morticia’s ornate cottage interiors took about nine months.
Trees, slugs, snails, and flowers are sculpted into the fireplaces.
The stained glass windows feature climbing roses.
[CLIP] Joy Sunday (as Bianca Barclay): Where did you find those?
[EASTER EGG #16]: You may have also noticed The Addams Family’s shrunken head decor.
Actor Luis Guzmán was scanned, and one of the heads is based on his likeness.
[CLIP] Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia Addams): That's Uncle Vasco on the left.
[EASTER EGG #17]: Multiple items in Morticia’s cottage are a nod to the Addams Family TV series from the 1960’s.
A stuffed bearAn iron maiden
A taxidermied tortoise
A fanback chair
[EASTER EGG #18]: Wednesday’s attic bedroom references Charles Addams’ original cartoons featured in ‘The New Yorker’ magazine.
A drawing of an octopus
There’s also a dinosaur mural in the background.
And a doll-sized guillotine, which Wednesday would’ve used to decapitate her dolls when she was little.
[upbeat string music playing]
You don't want to be late for the first day of school.
Ms. Capri. The new head of music.
[EASTER EGG #19]: Isadora Capri’s style is inspired by musician Florence Welch.
[upbeat string music continues]
[EASTER EGG #20]: The organ in the Nevermore music room is 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide.
The design was inspired by ‘Nosferatu’ (1922), with the shape of the famous vampire’s ears echoed in the instrument.
[Clip] Emma Myers (as Enid Sinclair): You know what you need? A place you can call your own. And I've got the perfect spot.
[EASTER EGG #21]: Making the intricate objects in Thing’s apartment required hand-stitching and laser-cutting.
Case in point: Thing’s beanbag chair.
[haunting music playing]
[crackling]
[CLIP] Fred Armisen (as Uncle Fester): Nobody sneaks up on me, kid.
[whimpering]
[EASTER EGG #22]: The Iago Clock Tower set was a massive build. The structure is all steel and has a working elevator.
[EASTER EGG #23]: To ensure safety, the swords in the clock tower were made of foam.
[tense orchestral music playing]
[Clip] Emma Myers (as Enid Sinclair): I don't think this is a prank.
[EASTER EGG #24]: Enid’s nails start out in strong tones — and get progressively lighter as the season continues.
[grunting]
[metallic scraping]
[Clip] Noah Taylor (as Bruno): Who would do this to us? Come on!
[dramatic music playing]
[EASTER EGG #25]: To achieve four-legged werewolf galloping,
Stunt performers were attached to suspended wire rigs.
This allowed them to actually run on the ground, and at a faster pace.
[both grunting]
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): Signal air support.
[EASTER EGG #26]: Jenna Ortega performed the Zephyr-winning zip-line stunt herself.
[EASTER EGG #27]: It took between three and five hours every day to prepare Owen Painter to play Slurp the zombie — the process originally took about 10 hours.
Before heading to set, he had to put on a full prosthetic head, body prosthetics, and elaborate costumes.
[CLIP] Isaac Ordonez (as Pugsley Addams): I jump-started his clockwork heart, and brought him back to life.
[EASTER EGG #28]: Owen Painter watched classics like The Three Stooges and ‘The Man Who Laughs’ (1928) for inspiration.
[growling]
[chains rattling]
[CLIP] Moosa Mostafa (as Eugene Ottinger): See?
[dark, dramatic music playing]
[EASTER EGG #29]: For Hyde scenes, stunt performers used crutches and aluminum stilts.
[CLIP]: And one! And two! And three!
[man growling]
[EASTER EGG #30]: Wednesday’s window stunt at the end of Episode 4 involved an unusual technique.
A horizontal window was built on a soundstage and Jenna Ortega was suspended above it. Then, with a little help from gravity, she was dropped through.
The windows were made of sugar glass, which has a crumbly, cookie-like texture.
And the rocky ground Wednesday falls onto was made of high-compression rubber.
[sirens wailing]
[CLIP] Jenna Ortega (as Wednesday Addams): I've always dreamed of looking death in the face. But in my final moments, all I hear is my mother's words ringing in my ears. Maybe I have made everything worse.
[music ends]
[thunder rumbles]
