Space may be the final frontier, but it’s just another field trip for Stan, the young protagonist of Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10½. A new trailer offers a first look at the Boyhood writer/director’s coming-of-space-age story, animated in the stunning style of Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly.
Inspired by Linklater’s own childhood growing up in Houston in the 1960s, Apollo 10½ tells the story of the moon landing from dual angles: One, that of the astronauts and NASA officials directing the landing, and the other that of a young boy watching it unfold from the ground below. Along the way, Linklater provides a rich and textured portrait of a country on the verge of the future, and a nostalgic look back at a family growing into that future. The way these two stories eventually intersect sheds new light on one of the most familiar narratives in American history.
Joining the interstellar ride is a voice cast including Glen Powell and Zachary Levi, with Milo Coy as Stan and Jack Black narrating. The film hits Netflix April 1. You can watch the trailer below.
