Daniel Craig may be one step ahead as Detective Benoit Blanc, but, according to the cast of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, he has some competition when it comes to real-life murder mystery parties. Speaking to Krista Smith in a new episode of the podcast Skip Intro, the stars of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sequel reveal that they organized a drunken game of Mafia while staying in a hotel in Serbia — and someone came very prepared. “Janelle [Monáe] must have traveled with costumes,” Craig says. “She came fully dressed up with a deerstalker and a pipe.”

“I’m fully committed to murder mystery parties,” Monáe explains. “I have them with my friends and family around the holidays. Just a random Tuesday, and I may or may not travel with a suitcase full of mustaches and beards and top hats and canes just fully ready to be the murderer in the murder mystery game.” According to Kate Hudson, Monáe’s sartorial dedication was matched by her enthusiasm for the high-stakes game. “Janelle was great, although [she] did keep thinking everyone was Mafia,” she says. “I think she just liked the drama of being like, ‘And you are Mafia.’ ”
So who was the best player? According to Hudson, Edward Norton was “very good,” but “don’t sleep on Leslie [Odom Jr.]. He’s a bit of a shark when it comes to Mafia.” As for Craig, his shining moment came later in the night. “Daniel was great when it turned into a dance party,” Hudson says. “We got down.”
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will stream on Netflix on Dec. 23. For more great celebrity interviews, check out Skip Intro on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.
