Leighton Meester might know who Gossip Girl is, but does she know who killed her best friend? Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Sarah Alderson, The Weekend Away follows two women, Beth (Meester) and Kate (Christina Wolfe), as they go on vacation in Croatia, but only one comes back alive.

When authorities accuse Beth of murder, she must retrace her footsteps to determine whether or not she committed this heinous crime in a drunken, jealous rage. Did Beth kill her during their argument at the nightclub hours before Kate’s death? Is it possible Beth was drugged by a stranger? Could she be a good girl gone bad? In a foreign country miles away from home and family, she can’t trust anyone. As Beth tries to regain her memory and clear her name, she also uncovers a painful secret. 

Directed by Kim Farrant and written by Alderson herself, the twisty thriller is Meester’s first feature film since 2019. There’s no better return to the big screen than as the prime suspect. And unlike her killer role inThe Roommate, it’s a mystery as to whether Meester’s character is guilty this time. The Weekend Away streams March 3, just in time for spring break — but don’t expect it to be a relaxing one.
