Marie: I feel like I've been very centered on my previous relationship. Like, this whole thing is very surreal.

AJ: Yeah. 

Marie: Like, I mean, I was just in, like, a four-year relationship, and yet here I am having this lovely picnic date with you. And it's like, is it guilty for having fun? Like… 

AJ: Have to let that sh-- go. Like, I can't grow if I keep thinking of my ex in this moment. Like, if you have a great date, a great day in general, live in that. 

Marie: I had such a great date with you yesterday. Didn’t you say you were going to tell me what your initials stood for? 

AJ: Anasia Jewel.

Marie: That's beautiful.

AJ: Thank you. 

Marie: My full name is Marie Angeline. My family, they call me Angie.

AJ: Angie, really?

Marie: Mmhm. So when they signed me up for school, it was a Catholic school.

AJ: I've been to one of those.

Marie: Yeah. It's like guarantees that you come out a lesbian.

[AJ laughing, Marie laughing]

AJ: I've never thought of it like that.

[laughing]

Marie: I guess I haven't disclosed any of what I'm about to say to any of my dates because it's not a fun thing. So I never talk about it. When my mom passed away, which we weren't like, you know, the best of friends or anything like that, I didn't even really go to her funeral because I was so angry. 

AJ: Wow. 

Marie: But I think it is something that I'm currently still unpacking, even though it happened like 12 years ago. Um…

AJ: Is it a forgiveness thing for you? 

Marie: Probably. I think I feel pretty guilty for not reaching out when I could have.

AJ: You don't have to keep it by yourself.

Marie: Maybe.

AJ: You can share the burden a little bit.

Marie: Maybe. 

AJ: You're in this dark place by yourself. If I sit with you in that, what are some things that I can do to help you find the light again? 

Marie: Wow. I never, nobody has ever asked me that question before. I guess just being present. 

AJ: I want to be the best partner that I can be for you. 

Marie: Clearly, we are very much a match. And clearly, like, there is a lot of intimacy there.

[Marie chuckles]

AJ: I feel like you want to hold hands now.

Marie: Oh, my.

Bridget: You issued the Ultimatum, right?

Ashley: Yes. Where I'm at in my life kind of feels like the right time, right place. But I've been in a relationship where I've just been, like, basically made to read a mind and figure out, like, what they need. And I can't do that.

Bridget: Yeah. 

Ashley: I know what I'm worth and, like, you know, what I have to offer. And if, like, someone can't see that, then I'm just, like, "bye," out the door. Could you, like, see yourself, like, getting into a relationship or a marriage with somebody else here? 

Bridget: Definitely fall hard and fast. So I feel like I'm not going to put it past myself. But I also want to use this experience for what it's meant for, which is to, like, try and get me ready for marriage. And to test those things that I'm, like, feeling iffy about.

Ashley: Like, in a marriage, like, you know, financials play a big role. You know, I'm very financially stable. So in a marriage, like, do you expect, like, one of us to do a certain role and then, like, another one do a different role? One's more masc, one is more femme.

Bridget: Not at all. I'm in a queer relationship because I don't want to be playing roles. 

Ashley: Are you, like, handy or anything? You do, like, house projects?

Bridget: I am. I'm pretty good with, like, a screwdriver.

Ashley: Okay, love that. Me too.

Bridget: And I enjoy it. 

Ashley: Yeah. Okay, this is so funny, but, like, my house now, like, I love mowing. I love mowing.

Bridget: Oh my God. I've never done that.

Ashley: Okay, I'll teach you.

Bridget: I've always wanted to ride a lawnmower.

Ashley: I do, like, weed eating. 

Bridget: So you have a yard and a house? That's cool. 

Ashley: I mean, it's renting, but not, like.

Bridget: Still very grown up, you know?

Ashley: Yeah. 

Bridget: I just feel like you are eerily similar to, like, what I'm looking for. 

Ashley: Wild. 

Bridget: You've, like, been a really nice surprise for me. I admire the way you carry yourself.

Ashley: Thank you. 

Bridget: I just think you have this, like, quiet confidence. 

Ashley: I just think you're, like, so naturally beautiful in your own way. Like, I really, like, your eyes are amazing.

Bridget: Thank you.

Ashley: You're welcome.

Bridget: You're the first person to say that.

Ashley: Really?

Haley: I wonder how everyone is doing.

Magan: I know. I think… I don't know, I really believe in us. We're very comfortable. We trust each other. You give me the space to, like, do what I need to do for myself, you know? Like, I always had a mentor, like, a coach, or a parent, or, like, somebody who was always, like, "This should be your next step." I never had the space to just kind of do things on my own. And now, not only am I doing things on my own, but I'm much more secure with my decisions. 

Haley: Proud of you. 

Magan: I'm proud of you. I don't know. We built something really special. I really think that we do. Like, I think we have a solid foundation. I feel like you know me. Like, I didn't put up some, like, front of, like, being on my best behavior so that you would like me, or that you would, like, fall in love with me, or think I'm cute, or what. I don't give a f-- about all that. You know, we're here to, like, understand what it takes to be a person who's, like, trying to get married, or what marriage is, or, you know, just, like, the important stuff that's going to last you through life. I got lucky with you. 

Haley: I got lucky with you. 

Magan: We almost missed each other. 

Haley: We almost missed each other. There were two options of, like, either we would be so similar and we would drive each other f--ing crazy, or we would be so similar and we would grow to really like it. And I do really like it. Like, it's nice. 

Magan: Or we're too similar and we don't change.

Haley: Yeah. Yeah, that too.

Magan: Mmhm.

[Magan chuckles lightly]

Magan: I don't know why I'm getting emotional.

Haley: Aw. 

Magan: It's just been really nice.

Haley: You're making me emotional.

[both laugh] 

Magan: I'm sorry, I don't mean to.

Dayna: Are you gonna get something to drink?

Magan: Yeah. 

Dayna: You need a drink?

Magan: Yeah. 

Dayna: Why are you nervous?

Magan: No, I'm not nervous. You know.

Dayna: Little stressed.

Magan: A little stressed?

Dayna: Yeah. Hi!

Delanie: Hi!

Magan: What's up?

Dayna: You look so cute.

Angela: So do you.

Magan: Yeah, you guys are matching.

Angela: I know.

Dayna: Very cute.

Angela: Not on purpose.

Delanie: So what's new? 

Dayna: I mean, obviously, the last time I saw you, you know what I mean? It was different. 

Delanie: What about you? 

Magan: Um… About what? [laughs nervously] 

Angela: About everything.

Delanie: Did you have a good partner?

Magan: I had a good partner. And because so many things were, like, in alignment of our beliefs, we connected instantly. There was a night where, like, we went out, and we were, like, looking at each other. And we, like, felt that there was, like, a sexual connection. We hooked up. So, yeah.

[Dayna clears throat]

Delanie: Okay. 

Dayna: Oh, that's not the worst part. [chuckles] 

Magan: During our trial marriage, I just had a really close bond with her, with this person. Um… And just how you felt very seen and understood by Mel, without having to explain anything, I felt the same way with Haley. She played a very important role in my life. And it was what I needed. Towards the end, we were growing closer and closer and closer. And we felt like we loved each other.

Delanie: Do either of you still have feelings for your trial partners?

Dayna: No.

Delanie: Okay. 

Magan: Honestly, it just kind of seems fishy. Because you emphasize so much friendship with her, but you were not just friends. And, like, what really was it?

Dayna: It's me. If I liked her, I would have jumped on that. You know it. It's me. 

Magan: You did jump on that, you little liar.

Dayna: I didn't, though. 

Magan: Tell me straight up. 

Dayna: There were moments where I wondered if I had real feelings for Mel. We had an extremely deep bond.

Delanie: On a friend level? 

Magan: She did it, but she wasn't only friends … You weren't … Friends don't hook up. Just like I'm being transparent with you about all the things that have happened, I just want the same from you. That's it. 

Dayna: I'm trying to be. 

Delanie: I hope you guys can both forgive each other for the things you might have done because of the situation you were both in. But to forgive, we have to grow, learn, and change our behavior. Like, change the things that made us hurt each other. 

Angela: Marriage is a job. It's the hardest job you'll ever have, because you have to work at it, and you have to make sure that that person feels important.

Dayna: Yeah. 

Angela: And the more you work, the more they're going to work back.

Dayna: Yeah.

Mel: So I'm going to start with the oil.

Marie: Okay.

Mel: Don't laugh.

Marie: I'm not laughing. 

Mel: Give me one foot, and the other one stays.

Mel: We ain't selling them for free.

Mel: Yeah, we'll check.

Marie: Mm. Do you have, like, a review spreadsheet or something? 

Mel: Just don't talk about the happy endings.

Marie: Mm.

Marie: I feel like our intimacy has gotten a lot better, in the broadest sense of, like, being together.

Mel: I agree. [laughs] Why do you keep looking at me like that?

Marie: I like you.

Mel: Oh, yeah? Since when?

Marie: Yeah. February 25th, 2020. 

Mel: Oh. That's a long time. 

Marie: Yeah.

Mel: Well, this is something I really wanted to do for you, for a long time. Because normally you work, like, a million hours a day. And then you get home, and I'm like, my woman's been on her feet for, like, 18 hours. I don't have a foot thing, don't worry.

Marie: Mm. It's okay if you did.

Mel: [chuckles] All right. That's it. 

Marie: Wait. How do I pay you? 

Mel: Oh, you know. Just sexual favors. 

Marie: Oh, that's it? 

Mel: Do you, like, correlate romantic things with sexual things? I need you to take me seriously, even with this on my face.

Marie: I am taking you seriously.

Marie: Um… Sure, I guess. I mean, yeah, to a certain extent. I mean, I think this is really romantic.

Mel: Mm-hm. 

Marie: I think romance is very much about, like, putting effort into, like, the other person.

Mel: I agree.

Marie: You're real soft, you know? 

Mel: When? 

Marie: Now.

Pilar: Ugh. Are you nervous about anything? 

Kyle: Yeah. I'm afraid of… not leaving with Bridget. 

Pilar: Mm. Yeah. 

Kyle: Yeah. I think I'm just afraid of, like, getting caught up in, like, a kiss that happened would just set us back. She'll probably have a lot of questions for me. 

Pilar: You think that would end your relationship, though? 

Kyle: I think it… will make it hard. I'm definitely going to work on, like, not being defensive, not doing, like, this. 

[Pilar laughing]

Kyle: I'll do that a lot. Yeah, just trying to be more understanding.

Pilar: Mm. A lot from, like, our conversations has helped me realize how, like, much of a control freak I am.

Kyle: Mm. 

Pilar: You know, I don't like, you know, going into situations without… 

Kyle: Knowing. 

Pilar: Knowing and getting lost in, like, the what ifs.

Kyle: Exactly.

Pilar: [chuckles] I feel like, what if I got to a point where I'm ready and she's not feeling the same way anymore? I don't know.

Kyle: You can come back if something, like, happened. 

Pilar: We'll see. I mean, I would like to think so, but I don't know. That's a fear. What if she's a different person?

Kyle: What if? [laughs]

Pilar: Yeah, what if? 

Kyle: Yeah, that's a scary thought.

Pilar: You think you're going to leave this engaged? 

Kyle: We'll see. I hope so. 

Pilar: I'm feeling the most ready I've ever felt.

Kyle: Mm. 

Pilar: Yeah, with time, I feel like it's like, psh, psh, psh, psh. 

Kyle: That's exciting. 

Pilar: Yeah, but whether or not it's going to be to Haley is going to be a different question.
