A lot can be said about Madea movies, but there’s one constant that remains true about Tyler Perry’s legendary character: classic one-liners. The iconic matriarch played by Perry himself continues to deliver on that again in A Madea Homecoming.

Composed of strange but sometimes profound philosophies, quippy put-downs, and some clever turns of phrase, Madea’s one-liners usually end with shock and confusion, among a few other things. In A Madea Homecoming, the titular character wastes no time creating quotable moments.

At the beginning of the film, Madea learns about her granddaughter Laura’s (Gabrielle Dennis) living arrangements, and while she sounds warm and loving at first, she subtly lays down that there’s a catch: “You can come here anytime you want, day or night,” she says, “’long as you don’t stay too long. You leaving right after graduation, right?”

Later in the movie, Madea lets loose about her religious philosophies. “You see the problem is, people be looking for an oak tree, and God dropped a little acorn,” she rhapsodizes. “You got to pay attention to the acorn.” In another scene, she says, “[Jesus] can turn water into wine. I got to go to the liquor store to get mine.”

Of course, those are just a few notable one-liners in a movie filled with them. You can expect to hear some hallelujer’s, too. Whether it’s a Madea-fied Christian proverb, words of love, conspicuously conditional support or an implicit death threat followed by a gunshot, here’s a look at the best Madea one-liners from A Madea Homecoming. Check out the video below.
