Grab your gaming chair: Your new favorite adventure game was just revealed at Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event.  

Oxenfree: Netflix Edition, our inaugural first-party game from Night School Studio, has officially launched and is now available to download at netflix.com/oxenfree in 31 languages. In the critically-acclaimed, award-winning game, Oxenfree, originally released in 2016, Netflix members will embark on mind-bending supernatural thrills — with no ads and no in-app purchases — that you’ll want to play again and again.

“You play as Alex, a 16-year old being introduced to her new stepbrother, and while meeting up with some friends on a remote beach you accidentally open a rift through time, unleashing spirits who threaten your very existence,” Adam Hines, Night School cofounder and Oxenfree lead writer, tells Tudum. “The gameplay is all about exploration and conversation, as you juggle dealing with the supernatural and the personal relationships within your high school clique.” Known for its artistic visuals, the game’s early sketches show how its dark and mystical world is transformed from pencil drawings to stylized paintings. 

For Hines, seeing how the game is translated and celebrated globally has been a highlight. “It’s interesting to look at your writing through the lens of someone trying to translate it, as it forces you to really think about why you put certain things a certain way,” he says. Other interpretations of the game have even included a live performance. “I think my favorite fan moment was seeing a German video game convention host a cosplay performance night. A group of very creative fans created a sort of overture for Oxenfree. It was fun to see what was important to them about the game’s tone and aesthetics and recreate that feeling in a unique way.”

Already a fan? Players will also be able to purchase long-awaited exclusive merchandise at Netflix.shop, including an illustration collaboration with artist and horror creature designer Trevor Henderson.
