Jennifer Lopez is one bad matriarch in the new teaser for The Mother.
Fans got a first look at Lopez’s new movie as part of the Tudum fan event today. Due out in May 2023, The Mother casts Lopez as an assassin who’s forced to come out of hiding to protect the daughter she left earlier in life. They’re both fleeing from dangerous assailants, and, as we see in the teaser, their circumstances look pretty dire. Directed by Niki Caro, the movie also stars Joseph Fiennes, Gael García Bernal, Omari Hardwick and Lucy Paez.

In the new teaser, we see a ripped Lopez doing a ton of chin-ups, all while clad in pristine white workout apparel. She’s tough as hell — as further evidenced by her pulling a dead elk through the snow near her hideout — and she’s handy with a gun. In the voiceover, Lopez tells someone, “She needs protection right now. You saw what was out there,” all while viewers get quick glimpses of car chases, speeding motorcycles and all sorts of tactical gear. “They’re going to keep coming,” Lopez’s voiceover continues. “If there’s trouble, come find me.”
With five distinct celebrations, Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event includes first-look photos, never-before-seen footage, new trailers, behind-the-scenes access, celebrity appearances, interviews and more from over 100 of your favorite series, films and specials. Lopez fans, specifically, can fall in love with The Mother when it hits Netflix in May 2023.
